Yes Warren Central beat Henderson and Henderson beat Henry Clay twice.

Don't we have some actuarial mathematicians on BGP? I'm sure someone or a group of someones can come up with a system that computes the math but allows for knowledgeable human input to the findings..........

Warren Central beat Henderson County by 6 on a neutral floor. Hardly a heavy statement as to who the better team is.

 

As I am often told (and have learned there is much truth in) matchups are what making comparing who does what against who a never-ending effort that ultimately might mean team A will usually beat team B, and team B will usually beat team C, but team C may beat team A . . . all because of how the teams matchup against each other.

I am surprised Covington Cathoic climbs in these polls, I didn't think the computer ratings took out of state competition into consideration.

I would say that Ballard is the favorite, but the Cov Cath/Trinity/Hoptown/PRP/New Cath/Holmes/Lafayette/Doss/Knott Central grouping is nasty and all are capable of beating Ballard. Getting Corey Douglas (6'6 Jr) back from a stress fracture could be huge for Ballard because of his ability to block shots, rebound, and score on put backs.

From looking at the results, Warren Central has performed better against every single common opponent they have, in some cases by a huge margin, in addition to the head to head win. That would be my reason for raising an eyebrow, considering these ratings are statistically based. In real life though, I tend to agree with you that 6 points is not exactly decisive. These ratings have it as a .1 advantage, and I have to imagine that had it included Central's absolute destruction of Ohio County on Saturday (WC is listed as 13-4, their 32 point win over Ohio County was win #14), that WC would be ahead of Henderson County. Ultimately, it doesn't matter to me - the ratings are always an utter catastrophe.

In 2008/2009 both Boone and Holmes were top 10 in the state. I'd take both of those teams over the top 3 this year...and that's nothing against those top 3 teams. Those 09 Boone/Holmes teams were VERY GOOD. (Obviously with one winning the state title)

Excellent post Walter. I tend to agree with both seasons mentioned.

 

Going back many more moons, seems that in the late 70's Holmes, Newport, and Lloyd were all top 10 teams in the state for most of the year in the AP poll (likely no LIT ratings yet). It may have been NCC or even CovCath instead of Newport, but I think it was the Wildcats. Year would have been either 77 or 78.
