Are you sure? I was told Hodge may be torn about leaving Bourbon County if the job was offered to him and that coming to Boyle is not the slam dunk that people may think.

I heard Bill Letton has a kid that attends Centre.

I have heard that Shadon Brown will apply for the job.

I have heard that Jeff Hester is high on the list and rumors say he will be offered the job before Hodge.

I have heard that Chuck Smith is not coming back to Boyle County.

I have heard the name Ray Graham mentioned along with the name of Robbie Lucas.

As he should be. He's deserved it, and that is NOTHING against Hodge. I think Hodge has a good thing going at Bourbon to be honest. For one, his brother is the AP at the HS. With Bourbon going to 4A, it looks like they will probably have to contend with Highlands, and while I know Highlands will be Highlands, they actually looked human this year...so, maybe this ridiculous 6-7 year run they have been on will come back down to "reality" (as in, actually being able to be beat in the region/semi's every other year or so).

Interesting. Hester is a Garrard graduate and former head coach at Garrard. Boyle principal Will Begley is also a Garrard graduate and he and Hester are close in age. I could see Begley being interested in Hester.

Same here. Jeff Hester is loved by kids and parents alike. I don't know of anyone who knows the man and doesn't like him. Just a great person all the way around and if he is offered the job I am interested in seeing his decision. I know it would be a tough one for him with Zach soon to be seeing the field for Navy a lot more in the coming years. However, I believe he'd get a pay bump that would also increase his retirement bump a little. I have also heard that teaching jobs are sparse in Boyle County right now and that if Hester is indeed the choice and he takes the job then no movement of anyone would be necessary.

 

If all of this is true then it makes perfect sense that Hester would be the first person offered the job. He's an excellent choice and it is much cleaner for all parties involved.

I told a buddy the same things the other night. Jeff Hester is one of these guys that if you don't like him, you probably need to look at yourself.

Agreed. However, W's and L's, he didn't do as well as Jerry Perry did. Granted, one could say that with Perry they were 1A and with Hester, Garrard had moved to 2A. But, I'm not one that thinks that matters. When Coach Perry was there and they were going to region finals after regions finals, they were having to battle Harrodsburg in their hay day along with Bardstown...when they went 2A (along with Hester taking the helm), they traded Harrodsburg/Bardstown for Danville/Boyle; so that was was really a wash at that time.

 

Either way. Both did a great job. Both are guys I REALLY look up to and always have.

If they get Hester, then they will have Perry as well. I think Perry enjoyed working at Boyle this year. Jeff will have a much more experienced staff this time around if he so chooses and that will help significantly with W-L ledger. Go Rebs

Good point, Harry. Jeff Hester was 14-28 in four years at Garrard County with one playoff berth. Hester had been defensive coordinator under Jerry Perry when Garrard had their best run in school history, going 65-18 over a seven year period, that included region runners-up to Bardstown in 1993 and Harrodsburg in 1995. Hester's problems at Garrard were three-fold:

 

1. Talent and class sizes were very low his first two seasons. Perry left at the right time and it took the 2000 graduating class (Hester's third team) to really get back to good football.

 

2. Hester inherited a brutal district. Gone were the 1A days of Carroll, Owen and Henry. In came Boyle, Danville, Lexington Catholic and Bourbon County. The four years of Hester's term at Garrard saw his district produce three state champions ('97 Bourbon, '99-'00 Boyle), a state runner-up that blew it ('98 Danville), and a Lexington Catholic program that was ranked #1 at some point during all four seasons.

 

3. For all his talents as a defensive coach, Hester never seemed to have a good offensive mind on his staff. The offense often struggled and seemed to go stagnant if the original game plan didn't work. I suspect that if Jeff gets this Boyle job he will surround himself with a better offensive coordinator and that won't be a problem.
