Who can stop Hopkinsville?

Featured Replies

Shooting outside is the only weakness they have, just like last year in the Semi finals of the state. For a team to beat them they will have to make they shoot outside and not get in a running push it game situation.

In the 2nd region, it is like everybody else is playing for runner-up.

The NKY bias on here is unreal. Hopefully this current membership drive will equal some of that out. If the NKY folks could see outside their little world they too would understand how good Hop town is. They will get their chance. All those folks can say is how good their region is. Only one problem with that. You only get to advance ONE seems to me that is an advantage for everyone else. Hard to get to the sweet 16 being the second best team in your own region. Lol.

Holiday fan I think you may be related to another person that doesn't get more than a 10 mile radius away from their home and thinks their team is going to win state every year. For him though it is always next year. It looks like Hoptown is having a very good year so far but there are a lot of other "big dogs" in state to content with. Beating up on an average at best region doesn't mean its time to cut down the nets at Rupp in March. A lot of basketball left to be played.

This has been true for the last 6-7 years. It all depends on how the draw goes to whom gets the runner up trophy.

In 2000, Hopkins County Central won the region and wasn't the favorite. Since then the favorite has won it. Madisonville North in 2001; and after that it has been whoever survives the 8th district. This year will be no different. Hopkinsville and Henderson County did have a very close game for 3 quarters. But the tigers pulled away with a double digit victory and Henderson lost a player for the rest of the year. Hopkinsville then smoked Madisonville at Madisonville. Caldwell County will get their shot at them, but Caldwell didn't play very well when they met up with Henderson County.

I don't see anyone in the second region staying close to them. But as another post stated; they can stop themselves. I don't see it though.

Now as far as the state tournament goes, I look for them to reach the final four again and then as we all know, anyone can win it when you get that far. But when the draw is finalized we will have a better idea how far they could go.

Not even closely related.

Go to look at Hoptown's schedule and look at the quality wins they have and then come back and try again. Hoptown is better than you think and obviously want to give credit to. Not often a team that made the Final Four the previous year and returns quality players but still can't get respect.

Current #3 team in the state. Still undefeated against Ky opponents.

Keep doubting though. I'm sure they'd love to be under the radar and the perceived underdog.

Hopkinsville is the real deal, no doubt about it. I felt they went through a stretch were they weren't playing great basketball but they seem to have that worked out now. Mark it down, Hoptown is a legitimate threat to win it all (not the region - ALL).

Covington Catholic, Ballard, Trinity, Montgomery County are teams I would take over Hopkinsville, but in basketball especially at the HS level any team can beat any team on any given night. There is no outright favorite if you match H-Ville with any team in the state ranked in the top 30 or so.

You'd take Montgomery Co or CovCath over Hopkinsville?

Do you have trouble reading? ;);)

No, I have trouble believing that you've watched all the teams play or trouble analyzing what you've watched.

I don't think people on here disrespect Hopkinsville so much as they just aren't familiar with them. It seems like most everyone recognizes how great they are, but we aren't as familiar with them as we'd like when it comes to an in-depth analysis.

Someone said in another thread that they thought one of the biggest contributing factors to all of this was their losing early in the King of the Bluegrass and going to the "other" gym instead of staying in the winners bracket and playing in front of more spectators.

Purple Pride don't think I have to try again. I said they are having a very good year but in state they have beated only one team currently in the top 20 team. Not saying they can't win it all, but should the season just stop now and have the state champion ceremony in H-town, and for go the rest of the season. There is a LONG list of teams in all high school sports in Kentucky and everywhere else that has most of their team back from last year and doesn't duplicate what they did the previous year. One bad night from the field in the regional and/or state tourney and game over for any team.

Agree with both thoughts. Not unusual for teams of the far western part of Kentucky to be somewhat of an unknown quantity as travel distances make it tough for them - Hop-town is 80+ miles from Owensboro, 120+ from E-town, 160+ to most of Louisville and 200+ from Lexington. Geez, many consider Lexington the center of the state yet it is a 3 hour drive from Hop-town and almost 4 hours from Paducah to Lexington.

And losing early in any of the metro area big events often does locate you in the secondary gyms where you won't be seen and thus won't gain any respect from those who don't get to watch you play. If Hop-town finishes their season as strongly as they've done so far I'm sure we'll see them challenge all comers at Rupp in March.
