You can't beat Hoosiers! But, why have more people not mentioned The Pistol (The Birth of a Legend). This is the movie about Pete Maravich. It focuses a lot on his childhood and highschool. There is one scene where he challenges someone in a spinning the ball on the finger and he ends up doing it for several hours. Has no one seen this movie?

 

 

The Maravich flick was great and comes in equal to Hoosiers as tops in my mind.

I liked Sunset Park for it's more hardtime story line. Imagine getting shot over a jacket and to top it all off, Carla from Cheers is your coach.

Robbie Benson - pound for pound- one of the best actors America has ever known!!! I loved that Ice Castles movie!!!!! We need a Benson return in a big way! :lol:

No doubt in my mind that Hoosiers is tops - I still watch it every year before the season starts and read the book "Season on the Brink" just to get back into hoops mode.

 

I too think that One on One is right up there with the best - it would still fit in today. Unfortunately, I lent it to one of my players a couple of years back and I never got it back.

 

I coached during the "White Shadow" era - my kids called me the "Fat Shadow."

I used to watch reruns of the "White Shadow" on ESPN Classic a couple of years ago. I really like liked. I wish they still kept it on there.

wWOW, the white shadow ,,what a classic, Hoosiers is at the top(even though I had to go puke cause of the name),,what about bill murry in space jam, hes quite an athelete, and even plays golf well ,,,,,Wait till they make the new made for tv movie about the autistic kid who hit 6 3's, AMAZING

Central/Southern Indiana and Eastern Kentucky are greatest places in the world to play high school basketball. Hoosiers captures the essence of what makes playing there so special. Even though the film takes place in Indiana... anyone who has played in the mountains and is from a small town were basketball is king...like Booneville, Beatyville, Campton, West Liberty, ect. understands why it has to be #1.

Hoosiers. I do like the Hoop Dreams book though as well as Darcy's Frey's the Last Shot which chronicles Brooklyn Lincoln H.S. when they happended to have a freshman named Marbury.
