What am I missing in how it played out? Was Eminence in foul trouble? Where the refs calling it tight and it just happen to favor Trimble? Trimble's bench is as good as their starting 5? The Trimble coach was going to give $5 for every point they scored to the Eminence coach's favorite charity?

Attempts can be made to try to put a spin on it or butter it up, but it is clear in how it played out. Trimble had the rare game opportunity to name the score and they chose to name it 87 to 5.

I haven't chosen to butter up anything. I have only stated facts from the game. Haven't taken a side on the matter. I do know it's not the first time Eminence has scored just 5 points in a game this season...

But in that game they only lost 42-5.

So what you are saying in all of your replies is that the 87-5 score was justified in your mind. Correct?

I don't fault the Lady Raiders or their coaches for the overall score. This is the Class "A" tournament, which is a big deal to small schools. I don't expect them to not play their starters at all or to tell their bench to try not to score. If any single player had a huge game, I might feel different. Remember, their season leading scorer only scored ten points. Is it a disservice to her to only be allowed to play half of the game?

Does Eminence not deserve some of the blame? It's hard to score points when you don't take many shots. Their coach was pleading with them to shoot the ball at times and they didn't.

This was a situation in which Trimble's 10 (of 10) man/gal was heads and shoulders better than Eminence's 1st man/gal. In the end, it was a lose-lose situation for both teams.

What are you missing? The 16 point 4th quarter in which Trimble's subs played.

Is Trimble's bench as good as their starting five? No, that's why you see a difference in the scoring by quarters. The subs played in the 2nd and 4th quarters. Those were the low scoring quarters. Unless you meant to ask if Trimble's bench was as good as Eminence's starting five in which the answer is no...they are better.

What else are you missing? Check out Eminence's schedule this year. You'll see a very, very soft schedule. Check out their roster. They play three 7th graders and an 8th grader. They do not field a JV or freshmen team.

???Easy here???

True Blue...I think you might have been too offended to see a specific part of my post. I like how they pray after the game with the other team. Just as you, I am glad for it.

I think if your honest, you would have to laugh a little about the thought of just getting beat by 82 points, then getting asked if you want to pray together. It made me laugh when I thought about it.

I'm a praying man, but if after humiliating me by 82 points, you asked me to pray together, Ill have to tell you, it would be tough for me to join you that quick afterwards. Honestly, if Eminence accepted the invitation to pray with the Trimble players after getting unnecessarily rocked, that says more about their character than anyone else. Props to them for eating the humble pie for four quarters, then praying with the ones that fed it to them.

What do you mean by "unnecessarily rocked"? Does Eminence not have any responsibility for the score?

In my mind, it would be harder to pray after a tough, close loss than one in which you were so outmanned that you didn't stand a chance to win. I don't think that it's harder joining a prayer circle after such a loss than LEADING the prayer circle after a game that you lost in the last few seconds. I've seen the Lady Raiders do that this year and have been amazed at their calm, humble prayer. It makes me realize that sometimes WE put too much emphasis on a game. These girls have it right.

I'm confused as hell. What is Trimble County supposed to do? Stop the game and tell their 8th graders to suit up? Some of you are just ridiculous and it is obvious you don't know TB&G well enough to know that those words are the truth. This was a game that had to be played. Should the starters who have practiced all week not get to play? They should be punished because their opponent isn't that good? You kidding me? What about the kids who don't get to play in the games when the opponent is pretty good? You going to tell them they can't score? Some of you kill me. Then after the game the girls from Eminence prayed with the girls from Trimble County? Yes they have way more character than some of you guys on here crying about a game you weren't even at. Ridiculous.

There's a thread in the Boys forum that needs some of you alls attention. Burgin needs some folks to cry for them too.

Here's my take. I get there are some games where teams are just overmatched. I know that sometimes the other team just gives up and doesn't care. I get that when you put subs in, it's hard to tell them not to score. I do believe that some modification was done in this game. But reading all the comments, I don't believe enough was done and maybe Eminence just doesn't care. But when you follow up statements with "well, this was an A tournament game", that leads me to believe you are trying to justify it a little.

If you have coached at any level, you have probably experienced something like this. There are clearly ways to keep this from getting to what it was. Yes, you pulled starters, but why in the world would they go back in the second half? And yes, you want the non-starters to get to play a little. But it seems like they have plenty of time to get to play in this game. You asked if you tell you kids not to score. The answer is yes, eventually you do. After they get to compete for awhile, I don't care who is in the game. You make up rules not to score. You run through your offenses, you put the kids in a zone and tell them not to leave the paint. You make them pass the ball 5-8 times before a shot is taken. There is a difference in winning by 40 and 80. In a 40 or even 50 point win, I might let might last subs on the bench go at it. But I agree with one poster, I don't know how it's possible to win by 82 when there is a running clock and you tried any of the above. I just don't get it. I know they are young and not a powerhouse team, but there are plenty of those teams around and I don't see that happening elsewhere. NCC just played Villa up here and they could have won by 100 if they wanted to. But they found ways to keep it from getting out of control. Out of their 3 big time players, I think one of them played half a qtr total. The others didn't see the floor. And I would bet Villa would beat Eminance by 30.

You're right, a lot of us were not there. But a lot of us have a great deal of experience with coaching bball and I can't figure out how a team that says they were trying to hold back with a running clock could win by 82 points. There had to be other things to do that they didn't. Is the game on Ihigh, cause I'd like to watch it?

They stopped pressing with 2 minutes to go in the 1st quarter...

Why did they press at all. Did they really feel they were a threat? This sounds like it was a high school team playing middle school kids. Why press at all? Everyone in the state knew what the outcome of this game would be.

The general rule for a game like this is that the superior team doesn't press or run an aggressive half court defense/trap against the lesser team. I have no problem with Trimble coming out and pressing in this game, especially if that's how they normally play. It sounds like they took the press off as soon as the score ballooned up. It also seems like the bench played extensive minutes as well. You can tell your kids to walk it up and pass it 10+ times before they shoot if you want, but I dont think you have to do that. That can sometimes look just as bad or even worse then just letting the kids play out. If you have your weakest kids in the game and aren't pressing and trapping and they STILL are extending the lead, then so be it. Eminence is bad you all. Really really bad. The real question here is why are they playing in this game? If your team is that bad, opt out of this tournament...don't play a varsity schedule....try and put your kids in positions they can be successful. I think the real problem isn't the score of this game, it's the fact that Eminence is even playing in it.

Can't argue with this. Like I said earlier, not taking a side, just stating facts from the game.

I agree, and if the administrators, athletic director and coaches were on the floor, I'd say press them to death and teach them a lesson. Unfortunately they were not, some young girls were, and I don't care how you want to spin it, beating a group of young players by 82 points is uncalled for. And I stick by my earlier statement that Coach Stewart should be ashamed. She alone had the power to handle this in a better way and SHE chose not to. I had higher expectations.

I agree with a lot of this. But I still think there is no need to press in this game. I agree you want to keep your kids in a routine, but this game wasn't going to feel anything routine about it and everyone knew that before it was played. Again, if it's a 40pt victory, I agree with everything you are saying. But we are talking 82 POINTS! That's a completely different scenario.

I would also agree that Eminance maybe shouldn't have put their kids in a position like this. But it goes back to my other posts...I thought this tournament was designed for the small teams the would never get another opportunity.

Will Trimble be competitive in their district and the 8th region tournament.

Money may be an incentive to play. I think that all teams get a portion of the Gate Receipts. It may be a decent fund raiser for them.

Thank you RCC9. These are great points and a great example with NCC in their first two ALL A games. Did Trimble Throttle down some? YES. Could they have throttle down more? ABSOLUTELY

How could they have done it? There are plenty of ways it could have been done. RCC9 gives some great examples and other ideas have been mentioned in this thread. Yes, starters play 8 minutes instead of 16...or just 5. Yes, you play the end of your bench in the second half in all 5 spots on the floor. Again there are plenty of ways.

An argument could be given that doing this would hurt Trimble's momentum or "quality of play for the next game" and why would they want to shoot themselves in the foot when it is a tournament format? Well, let's examine that question or argument.

First of, Trimble has a quality team. Their tournament run does not and should not depend on how many minutes their starters still get to play in a game against Eminence. The difference in whether Trimble wins the 8th region ALL A tournament, should be more than just how many minutes their starters still get to play in this game. I believe Trimble, as a team, has much deeper things to put confidence in and they would have been fine and still sharp for the next game, even if their starters played one quarter or less. Playing starters, even just half the time, was not going to make their chances of winning the tournament any better.

Secondly, for those that think my first point is stupid. Trimble's next round game after this one against Eminence was against the winner of the Carrol Co. vs Williamstown game. This season, Trimble has beat Carrol by 33 and Williamstown by 57. I think Trimble would have been okay with taking the throttle down even more against Eminence. It just sounds like they didn't believe that.
