Look at Dallas Braden for the A's, threw a perfect game in 2010 or 2011 I believe and was supposed to be a rising pitcher, well now his arm is shot and he's retired. He was just 25. I know it's a very extreme example but that's a hefty contract for someone who throws and hard and as much as he does. It'll definitely be interesting to see how they handle his innings and pitch counts over the next couple of seasons.

Comparing him to Dallas Braden, who almost no one knew about before his perfect game, is a slap in the face to the unquestioned best pitcher in the game. Not comparing ability by any means, I'm questioning health for young pitchers. He threw a career high 236 innings last year and while they may be fine for now there's always a health concern for power pitchers.
