April 7, 201412 yr I love the context clues that the show watchers completely miss out on. I love watching and not knowing what is going to happen.
April 7, 201412 yr I love watching and not knowing what is going to happen. I didn't start reading the books until after the first season started. I "caught up" about mid way through the first season. It gave a a new perspective as well as a better understanding of what was going on in the series. Sent from my iPhone using Forum Runner
April 7, 201412 yr Really solid episode....Oberyn Martell is quite a bit different looking than I expected.
April 8, 201412 yr After a very successful season premier (second in HBO ratings to only The Sopranos finale) GOT has been renewed for 2 more seasons! LINK
April 8, 201412 yr ^I would assume season's 5,6, and 7 will be the combination of Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons. Those books are occurring simultaneously, so I would imagine the show will combine them together over 2-3 seasons.
April 8, 201412 yr While I can't see HBO canceling before the conclusion of the books with TV you never know. I've read at a few places that there's actually a chance that the TV series could overtake and pass the books. The last I heard is that the next book won't be out until 2015 at the earliest. GRR Martin has discussed where he will be taking the books with the producers.

GRR Martin has discussed where he will be taking the books with the producers. He should be fine, assuming he releases it in 2015, which is what I've heard as well. You figure season 4 (book 3) is 2014, season 5 (books 4 & 5) is 2015, season 6 (books 4 & 5) is 2016, season 7 (books 4 & 5) 2017, season 8 (book 6) 2018, season 9 (book 6) is 2019. That'd mean he'd have until 2020 to finish book 7 before the show caught up with him. This is all assuming books 4 & 5 combine for 3 seasons and book 6 encompasses 2 seasons.
April 8, 201412 yr There is also a problem with the teen actors aging. As I recall Arya is supposed to be 10 or less in the books, Bran even younger and Sansa 14 or 15. They aren't going to look those ages soon. Google Maisie Williams. The costumers are going to have to hide some things.

They'll find ways to play around with the timeline in addition to all the other tricks of the trade. And judging from the first episode, they're going to start diverging from the strict storylines of the book in some significant ways soon. They'll do that both to simply make things more interesting for the viewer and also just to make it feasible to keep filming seasons this way despite not knowing the ultimate conclusion of the story.

I know Martin has toyed with the idea of having a 5 year lapse between books, which would definitely help in age differences.
April 13, 201412 yr Back to the top for this one. Tonight should be an outstanding episode with something I've been waiting on for 2 years.
