Game of Thrones: Season 4

OK fellow book readers, it's been a while since I read them. Did Bran get captured at Crasters Keep in the books? I don't remember that.

Nope. Seemed like a good 75-80% of last night's episode was stuff that never happened in the books. Really didn't like it at all.

The deviations are starting to worry me. I am concerned that they will be far too different by the end of things.

I've had a lot of people who've read the books that liked the episode last night. I've not read the books but I did talk to a few friends that mentioned the main differences.

Same here. None of the deviations last night are simple, show it in one episode things. They are setting up to be major plotlines, and I don't like it one bit.

Bran getting captured is a huge, massive deviation. Not sure where they are going with this, but I agree, not a fan.

After the fantastic job that they've done with the shows so far and also a reader of the books, I have faith in HBO to put together another quality product.

The main thing I'm looking to get resolved is if Jon and Bran meet. That is the only situation where major deviations could result.

I've read a lot about the ending of the show. I thought the episode was awesome, and for once, it shed light on an aspect of the book that hasn't really been discussed. I am not sure how serious fans of the books people on here are, but go read a Reddit thread on it, if you have any interest. It's pretty fascinating -- both the show's episode and how much time people have on their hands to know EVERY detail about ASoIaF.

^Supposedly the White Walker at the end of the episode was the Night King. He's mentioned in most all the books, but as a character in stories told to the children to scare them about what's north of the wall. He's not yet made an appearance as a real character in the books, could it be foreshadowing? :idunno:

Of the 5 books out so far book 4 was by far the worse one. In terms of books series I have read it may be my least favorite book in a series I have read.

Not a reader of the books or reading in general, but was wondering what the White Walker/Night King was doing to the child at the end?

^He turned him into one of them. Didn't you see his face go cold and eyes turn pure blue?

So the child will be a full grown white walker now or will grow into one? What is the back story of the White Walker and or the Night King that has been brought up? What is their origin, what do they want?

I don't know. You're asking questions that haven't ever been addressed by the show or the books.

There is a guy where I work who has read the books and usually fills me in on things as they go, all he told me was that he was upset about Sunday's episode. Assumed the White Walker's point was addressed, but not the Night King.

Pretty good article summarizing the basic theory of the Night's King. He was apparently a Stark from many generations ago who was in the Night's Watch. He fell in love with a White Walker woman, and ruled from a castle along the Wall, until his brother (another Stark) removed him from the area. Before he was removed, however, he converted 13 of his fellow brothers into White Walkers using some dark magic. Not much is known of him besides that.

The episode was great, IMO. It's about time, as a book-reader, that something is illustrated/foreshadowed not as GRRM writes in the books.
