South Oldham ranked and got spanked by 18 earlier by Collins. Silly.

Just like small sample size causes weird results this statement is also a fallacy. Almost anything can happen in a one game sample. And it is entirely possible for a better team to lose to a worse team by 18 on a given night. Not saying that is the case here but computer rankings look at the whole and as the year goes by and the sample size grows they begin to give a more accurate picture.

I've seen both, trust me, silly.

I can't even begin to understand this:

Computer rankings can't factor in common sense. For example, if a team has a player injured, that shouldn't crucify a team in the rankings because, in effect, they're not the same team without that player. That's why I loathe computer rankings.

But over time the theory would be that stuff like that evens out.

Just like sometimes things look good on paper, but it reality they just don't work in the real world.

But over time the theory would be that stuff like that evens out.

How does it even out? Can't. For instance, the year that Christian Co. won the championship, they played the first several games without their studs because of football. Started off in the tank. They never got as high in the ranking as they should have been on the computer because of the losses. So, I disagree that it evens out.

I guess something about the bolded has something to do with your dislike.

Nope. But I'll point out all of the flaws for you,

1, Scott Co isn't the 3rd best team in the state.

2.. Lafayette owns wins over two of the top 6 yet they are ranked #13?

3. I'll play the game. No way there are 13 teams in the state of KY better than Holmes right now. Tell a coach that Maxpreps had Holmes 14 and watch their reaction. Legit top 5-10 team. BGP folks seem to agree.

4. Covcath is close to top 10, but not there YET. Luckily for us, my point can either be proven tomorrow night or make me look like a fool for saying that.

5. LVille St X isn't top 25. They have beaten nobody to deserve their ranking. Teams like Male and Dixie are much more deserving and I say with confidence that they would beat St X.

6. Lincoln Co has a 27 point loss to South Oldham...Not a top 20 team.

7. Who has Montgomery Co beaten to prove they're a top 7 team in the state? How many teams listed in that top 25 would also be 14-0 against that schedule?

I could go on and on to prove my point but hopefully you now realize my comment has nothing to do with Holmes' ranking. Maxpreps XCellent 25 national rankings are solid but that's about it.

I agree with all you said except for #6. In that loss to South Oldham, Lincoln County was missing their best player in point guard Timmy Taylor. I'm not saying they wouldn't have still lost that game but I am saying they wouldn't have lost by 27 and judging by how they have been playing since his return I am not so sure they would have lost that game with him in there.

Never been a fan of ANY computer rankings and I have no problem saying these are a joke too.

I can point out something different with each region but my best example is in the 5th region where ETown is #1 despite losing by double digits to Taylor County.

Do you really think coaches from around the state do a better job?

Computer rankings can be a decent guide to the strength of teams. But no rankings done by anyone are gospel. I will almost guarantee you that most that vote in AP poll never lay their eyes on far western Kentucky teams. At least a computer can be objective a little. Graves is ranked 12th in Maxpreps but doesn't get a whiff in the human polls. My feeling is that a lot of the so-called top 25 teams don't want to tangle with that team right now. The computer picks it up. I kind of think a collection of computer and human rankings can give a pretty clear picture.

1. The games I saw, Scott Co. looked good, but not #3 good. Although "stud" player in Gilbert.

2. Lafayette, I feel should be in the Top 10, another "stud" player in Jackson Davis.

3. Agree 100%, the 'Dawgs ranked #13 is laughable.

4. CovCath going to FLA and winning a tourney is not shabby, so I can live with their ranking.

5, 6, & 7 I know really nothing about them, so I'll defer to you.

Lincoln Co is better than you think.

Fair enough.

I trust your opinion.

Check out the NKY coaches poll that LB13 just posted...spot on, IMO.

In NKY, yes I think the coaches rank the teams better than what Maxpreps has out.
