Of the varsity players who played last night, Buten is the only basketball only, and the only varsity player that has basketball as their first sport.

The problem with HHS basketball is there aren't enough basketball only players to mix in with the football players. When more than 3/4 of your team doesn't have the time to work on skill work or play the game on a regular basis, last night is what your going to get more often than not. Most high school teams have a lot more kids that basketball is their main sport or only sport. Everyone knows this is how it is at Highlands and it is what it is. I do know there are a couple of the younger grades that have some really good ball players. Hopefully they keep working hard and the Birds will have some region contending teams in the future.:thumb: GO BIRDS!!

HHS has only had 15 practices with their whole team since the football season ended. Most schools have had almost their entire team 7 weeks before their season started. HHS only had 4 practices. They have not worked hardly any on their press offense. CCH's press just ate them alive and their trapping defense was solid in the half court. HHS's most deliberate game of he year was their best game of the year. Their 3 point percentage says they need to get good shots.

The most deliberate game was the only game that they scored over 50 points? Seems a little contradictory. This team averages 41.6 points per game. There have been exactly ZERO games won by a ninth region team this year by scoring that few of points.

There is a big difference between being patient/deliberate, and not getting shots. If the game plan is to pass the ball around, run the offense until you get that open shot on the block -- well guess what -- 41.6 points per game will be the result.

Their 3 point FG percentage is much more of a result of a lack of an inside game (little size) as it is not having shooters. Teams like NCC (with size) or CCH/Holmes (with PG's that can drive and dish) set up the shooters on those teams. They shoot a higher percentage due to the clean looks the shooters are getting.

Thirty five shots total against CCH. To score 60 they would have to shoot 85% from the field. We all know that is completely unrealistic for any team. Shoot the ball kids. Make something happen. Get to the rim. Get to the free throw line. Force the action.

Funny how you deleted your original comment out but a little too late wasn't it? "HHS player could very well have fouled him extremely hard. Then we would have read on here how bush of a play that was by the HHS player."

All I did was recount a play at HHS last year when a HHS player fouled Schuh on what was more than just a normal foul in the game! But then you started the mess, not me!

BTW it was True and if you doubt it go, to this link and then the around the 01:09:05 minute mark!

I started it. Wow. Sticks and Stones I guess right. Totally missing the point obviously. Ruthsatz's actions last night were nothing more than bush league no matter how you want to twist it.

Look at the scores in the area, Cov Cath, Homes, Dixie and NCC are playing big boy Basketball.

You guys have obviously seen the Birds way more than I have so .....

I don't think it's simply a matter of the number of practices and games they've had. If , say, Feggins and Hoge were playing this team would be better with the exact same number of days on the court.

Throw in 6'6 Nick True or 6'3 Todd Ramey. Lets face it, kids not coming out for the team like Feggins, True, Ramey, Hoge doesnt help things. But you cant do anything about those decisions except work hard and try to get better.

Superior Talent beats lesser talent everytime. I dont think its Rocket Science.

If all the kids mentioned played they would be better. How much? Enough to compete with CCH/NCC/Holmes. No way. Maybe move up into the bottom half of the top 10 in N Ky. These kids would bring a little size and depth but no commitment to the table.

I'd rather watch the kids that have made the commitment and roll with the results. Get tired of reading about who is not playing - would rather discuss who is playing.

Nice gesture by the HHS fan base to come out dressed in GREEN to support HHS student athlete Ryan Green.

Ryan Green was injured earlier this season in the game versus Dixie. He tore a ligament in his knee and has had surgery to repair the injury. Ryan is a 3 sport athlete that has excelled on the football field and on the track. A 2 year starting WR on a STATE CHAMPION and a RUNNER UP STATE CHAMPIONSHIP football team and a STATE CHAMPION in the 400M dash on the HHS track team. He played basketball for the love of the game and for the joy of bring part of the team. He was a very quick defender and despite lacking size attacked the rim with regularity.

Depending on the rehab, this injury may cost Ryan a chance at running track at the next level. He could have given up basketball like so many others to concentrate on one sport. He chose to play a game he loves and got injured. Join me in wishing Ryan luck and thanking the HHS fan base for supporting him at the game.

Ryan is a GREAT kid and I was upset to hear about his injury. I know that UC had shown interest in Ryan for track and that would have been just perfect for his family full of Bearcat fans. I hope his surgery was successful and he has a quick and complete rehab. Best of luck Ryan and I'm sure wonderful opportunities are ahead for you.
