Can someone explain where the "bigs" didn't handle the pressure? I'm confused on those comments? I thought Weyer and McDonald did a great job bailing the team out several times tonight on the press. IMO they handled the pressure extremely well. And when Schulte went back in the game he took the ball to the basket. I don't think they cracked under pressure at all. They combined for 47 points (Weyer and McDonald had 19 a piece, Schulte 9), 19 rebounds (Weyer 6, McDonald 9, Schulte 4) and only 4 turnover. Where did they not handle the pressure?

Not a great 4th quarter for the Breds. But it seems they have the 3rd quarter figured out. I'd trade two losses in December for a big win in March any day. Keep working guys.

Ben Weyer needed more touches in the 2nd half, he was in a . "zone" in the 1st half. He is steadily making a name for himself. They also failed getting the ball to Schulte when he had obvious mismatches.

The Pangallo lay up at the end could have " iced" it, it looked like he was anticipating contact when he went up with the shot, just a "tough" break for Zach.

The 3 that Tanner Moeves took with under 30 seconds was a shot I had no problem with him taking, he was wide open, it just didn't fall this time.

Big-time learning experience the last 10 days for the Breds.

What was the score when Moeves took the 3?

Newport Catholic 15 18 13 09--55

Lafayette...........13 07 13 24--57

Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic

Newport Catholic (7-3) -- Schulte 9, McDonald 19, Weyer 19, T. Moeves 6, G. Moeves 2.

Lafayette (8-4) -- Robinson 4, J. Jenkins 2, Blakely 12, Davis 28, Jackson 4, D. Jenkins 4, Lane 3.

Just watched the play on I High after seeing it in person and as I wandered on the drive back, after his man went done he may have been able to take it to the basket, but that is why you play these type of games in December..... to learn for March.

Invaluable lessons for both teams tonight. March is going to be very fun to watch!!

The group I sat with discussed the final sequence for at least 10 minutes following the game. We all agreed something should have been drawn up to get the ball to Ben. Dude was lava hot all night and and shouldve gotten more touches down the stretch. I was gonna come say hello after the game, but figured you may not be in the cheeriest of moods.

I can see that assessment, and coming into the season NewCath was without a doubt the most well groomed, best trained team in the 9th, hitting the ground running, mighty full of stamina.

As you and PurplePride92 have said, they made bad decisions. Under the late game pressure they were facing, and being forced to play at that speed, it just seems that mistakes can be made when your players aren't too fresh, and I can't see that it would be too much of a stretch to suggest it.

A different approach with a sizable lead that could slow the ball up and calm things down to allow them to breath a bit while preserving the lead looked like a good option.

During this time of the game when they were in their half court offense with a good lead they needed to be more patient in shot selection, as well as just rotate the ball and have Lafayette get frustrated into foul trouble, and start adding insult to injury that way. The Breds were rushing shots with a lead just giving Lafayette more time to keep climbing back in by snagging the rebounds off of rushed ill-advised shots.

Perhaps the poor decisions can't be attributed to late game wear and tear, although for many teams with lack of depth that's a common setback, and hopefully they can find a way to eliminate a tendency or tread they're having with top notch teams to have a second half lapse after typically coming out of the gate in games on fire. There's no doubt they can play with anybody, and for their sake I hope there is a fix, and that it's not just mistakes being caused by losing steam late in the game.

I would agree, and my apologies if my reply came off sounding upset. But I don't think it has to do with being tired. They just made, as one parent in the stands said and I'll "clean it up, some of the most ill-advised passes in the world. Lafayette did a great job of amping up the pressure, but the Breds were beating it. However once Lafayette got on a roll the Breds cracked BIGTIME.

BINGO, in the 1st half he was abusing anyone trying to guard him.

I wish you would have, I needed something to take my mind off of what had just happened. :(

True, but a WIDE OPEN 3, I'll like my odds with Tanner from there.

I feel worse for Zach Pangallo, great steal and drive to the rim, but......tough break.

Lane's only basket was a huge one.

Take your pick of the above, any of them will work. :lol2:

.....and did forget to mention, Jackson Davis is worth the price of admission, the kid can play.....WOW.

His one hand put back dunk over NCC defenders was by far the best I've seen in a while.

.

Depends.

What did Coach Dawn want?

If he just said "find a good shot" then the kid was fine since he can shoot it well.
