December 18, 201312 yr I'm familiar with the rule, thanks for your concern though... There were a few posts I read that implied he should have never been hit because he was the punter. That is what I was responding to. Right you don't have to like the rules but they are the rules. So if you know the rule you know this was illegal and dirty.
December 18, 201312 yr Right you don't have to like the rules but they are the rules. So if you know the rule you know this was illegal and dirty. I just want to make sure I understand all the bengal fans position. If the hit was 2 inches lower you have not issue with it? Is it the fact that he was just a little too high?
December 18, 201312 yr Right you don't have to like the rules but they are the rules. So if you know the rule you know this was illegal and dirty. He made contact with his head, he should be penalized. I don't necessarily think it was a dirty play just because of the injury.
December 18, 201312 yr He made contact with his head, he should be penalized. I don't necessarily think it was a dirty play just because of the injury. Show me a football play where contact with the head isn't made. If there was never contact with the head, they wouldn't wear helmets.
December 18, 201312 yr Show me a football play where contact with the head isn't made. If there was never contact with the head, they wouldn't wear helmets. I agree 100%.
December 18, 201312 yr He lined him up, and launched himself, helmet first, at Huber's head. If that isn't the definition of a dirty illegal hit, there's no such thing.
December 18, 201312 yr He lined him up, and launched himself, helmet first, at Huber's head. If that isn't the definition of a dirty illegal hit, there's no such thing. Wouldn't any hit be a launch? Your taking your body, and momentum towards another player, and their direction. His feet didn't even leave the ground except for him striding to get to Huber.
December 18, 201312 yr NFL Confirms That Steelers Hit On Bengals Punter Kevin Huber Was Illegal "Dean Blandino, the NFL's Vice President of officiating, appeared on the daily NFL Network show, "Total Access", and explained that Terence Garvin's hit on Huber was indeed an illegal one. "Huber, he's a punter. And the key is he's defenseless throughout the down," Blandino said Tuesday on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access." "So even though he's pursuing the play, he still gets defenseless-player protection. You can't hit him in the head or neck, and you can't use the crown or forehead parts of the helmet to the body." "This is an illegal block. It should have been a flag for a 15-yard penalty," Blandino went on. "You'll see the close up where you can see the contact to the head or neck area. So this will certainly be a point of emphasis this week, especially with our referees who are responsible for the punter on plays like this. "We have to watch the punter, he's defenseless. And we want to flag hits like that." "
December 18, 201312 yr I just want to make sure I understand all the bengal fans position. If the hit was 2 inches lower you have not issue with it? Is it the fact that he was just a little too high? It was dirty b/c he clearly intended to hit him in the neck/head area. It was illegal b/c the punters are considered defenseless by the NFL. Therefore illegal and dirty. You even agreed yesterday that the offender probably knew it was the punter. They know the punters are protected by the rules.
December 18, 201312 yr Show me a football play where contact with the head isn't made. If there was never contact with the head, they wouldn't wear helmets. You're not really saying guys can't block and tackle without targeting the head and neck right?
December 18, 201312 yr You're not really saying guys can't block and tackle without targeting the head and neck right? 1. I don't think it was targeting period. 2. The shoulder pads hit at the top of the numbers on Hubers jersey, how is that aiming for the head or neck. 3. If you go in for a shoulder block/ tackle, your head always gets there first.
December 18, 201312 yr The punters being defenseless the whole time is stupid... Beyond stupid actually. So you can't even block them? :lol2:
December 18, 201312 yr The punters being defenseless the whole time is stupid... Beyond stupid actually. So you can't even block them? :lol2: No, them being defenseless simply means you can't contact above the shoulders.

You even agreed yesterday that the offender probably knew it was the punter. They know the punters are protected by the rules. the first is 1000% your opinion, one I disagree with. I think he was trying to make a highlight reel block on the punter and hit him too high. Completely disagree that he intended to hit his neck/head area. You can see he starts to turn his head to try and avoid helmet contact. Just went too high, it is what it is, should have been flagged and he will be rightfully fined. It was illegal because he made contact with the head/neck area of a defenseless player. Had he been a couple of inches lower this is a clean hard block.
