Tonight is Cooper's Football Banquet. I have been able to keep it together all year, even on Senior night I was able to make it through tear free....tonight may be a little different. Sad thinking about it all being over as far as High School Football goes.

I agree completely! Every time my sons step on the field my stomach rolls.(have two sons on the team and one who already graduated) Hated the feeling but love watching them play.

You were right, I made it through the first time they called him up, but the last time for an award I got kind of choked up, don't think anyone saw me though so I think I made it out without anyone knowing.

The backup QB from Collins coming in cold with one play left and tossing a touchdown to beat Highlands. That's the kind of stuff legends are made of. Seriously, you are kidding yourself if you don't think that's going to be mentioned in articles and reports years from now.

 

If the back up QB for Collins EVER has to pay for a meal in his hometown again, something is truly wrong. That kid came in cold in the biggest moment in his school's short sports history and did what others only dream of.

Omigosh, I'm a Bowling Green High Football Alumnus (1974-76), Team Historian, and a proud supporter who's seen or played in many games at my beloved Alma Mater. Where do I start? Possibly a good place to start would be to recognize all of the very informed opinions, positive talk, and respect from so many fellow posters here of what the Purples have accomplished with perhaps the greatest graduating class the school has ever seen. It was my priviledge and pleasure to present that senior class on page three of our home game program.

 

The older posters (Watusi, Toothpick, etc.) know that I regard this website as a second family. That family has gotten much bigger now, and it isn't just with people who had kind things to say about BGHS or more big BGHS supporters. Hellbird, Slobberknocker, Avid Tiger, and many others are now part of this big wonderful family.

 

A real touching site to see was after our game with John Hardin. The hearts of the BGHS fans went out to the JH players as they came off the field. I personally swapped skin with many of the players and saluted them at the same time. I wish that I had been able to have time to interact with the JH fans, some of the greatest and most sportsmanlike fans in Kentucky, but I did last year. Hang in there, Bulldog fans...your time will come!

 

Scott Co wins their second state title...and both were won at WKU! Collins wins a title in storybook fashion so soon in their young history. Belfry wins their title on the strength of a single field goal. DeSales is the only Louisville team to win, and they win their first title ever. Mayfield and BGHS uphold the honor of the old Western Kentucky Conference (well, Mayfield is still there...BGHS is a former member).

 

This is a season that won't soon be forgotten, and I am so glad that I was along for the ride!

I made my first trip back to Pikeville since I placed my sons ashes there, to see 4 games of the Pike County Bowl.

 

I was able to watch over 300 games on TV/INTERNET/VHS

 

Overall another very good season.

The excitement of each and every year never diminishes even after your players have graduated. Getting the chance to meet new football parents and loving that they include me with all their football fun. It brings back great memories of my own when they talk about this game or that play . Highlands will always be Highlands and they will have great years, fun seasons, great players and teams, and a great fan base.

You'll miss watching your son play next year. However, you'll see much more of the game than you did when he played. Happens to all of us.

As many of you know I've known DBarker since he was born. Just got another Christmas card from his family and they kept the tradition alive of it being him and his older sister. Man oh man I wish I could post the ones I got when he was a chubby kid with bright red hair rocking his bright red sweater!

 

I had never watched him play QB as a kid. His dad once mentioned about maybe sending him out to work with a QB guru in Cali. I was thinking "seems like a lot of money to spend on a kid." Little did I know he was going to turn into the nationally-recongized player that he did. First time I saw him throw a football was in 8th grade playing frosh ball against Highlands. Blew me away when he zipped a slant route. That night I came home and PM'd Guru and LN and said "remember this kid - has a chance to be D1."

 

I applaud him for handling the "fame" and all of the criticism that comes from kids and ,sadly, a few adults. If it bothered him it never showed. He's one tough hombre on and off the field.

 

Obviously, I'm excited about his future. He told me today he has one more week of high school. Hard to believe.
