December 7, 201312 yr Rebellious streak, don't like authority? Sure. Posting stuff or behaving in ways that reflect poorly on themselves and our family, no. I have two that are graduates. One is a Marine. The other is a gainfully employed college student. The two that I have in high school know how to behave. Once long ago, I was a high schooler, too. I may have had a rebellious streak and not liked authority, but I had sense of how to act. That anyone would call what they did "typical" saddens me. I didn't say what they did was typical. I said her responses on Twitter were that of a typical teenager.
December 7, 201312 yr Oh the transgressions of youth. No excuse for it. A LOT of us were hard-headed and learned things the hard way, I know I did. Usually the harder the lesson, you'll most likely not repeat the mistake or at least think twice before doing it again.
December 7, 201312 yr I didn't say what they did was typical. I said her responses on Twitter were that of a typical teenager. Understood. I think that, perhaps, I still had the "girls will be girls" post stuck in my head from earlier. My apologies for misinterpreting (well, misreading) your post.
December 7, 201312 yr Maybe they can't control them but they can certainly instill a sense of decorum that would apply when outside the house. If it was my daughter I would be mortified. Based on the Twitter response of one of the "ladies" it seems that class and decorum is not something she's familiar with. That girl would have played her last game after that if I had anything to do with it. And before I'm accused of having a double standard I would have the same reaction had it been boys. Sent from my SCH-I405 using Forum Runner I'd be mortifed as well. I've taught my kids right and wrong and how to act in public and privately. The day they get a wild hair up their butt to do something completely opposite of the way they have been raised should not reflect how I have raised them. How they respond to the consequences and accept responsibly for their actions does.
December 7, 201312 yr While I don't have a problem with the suspension I'm having a real hard time getting even a little worked up by this.
December 7, 201312 yr Author While I don't have a problem with the suspension I'm having a real hard time getting even a little worked up by this. I can see it especially if you have a daughter. If this were my daughter we would have a SERIOUS discussion about what the use of that sign signifies and the appropriateness of it. You can't discount what the symbol means.
December 8, 201312 yr This is yet another thing I have learned about via BGP. I would have just thought it a tribute to machinists everywhere. I'll guess the camera person had no idea.
December 8, 201312 yr I'm so glad there was no such thing as social media when I was growing up. I was a good kid raised by good parents but I did some stupid stuff that I am very glad I will never have to explain to my kids when they google me.
December 9, 201312 yr This is yet another thing I have learned about via BGP. I would have just thought it a tribute to machinists everywhere. I'll guess the camera person had no idea. In all seriousness, I had ZERO idea what this meant until I did a google search. Sometimes when I try to give the old "Hook'em Horns" salute I get this instead. :lol2:
December 9, 201312 yr I can see it especially if you have a daughter. If this were my daughter we would have a SERIOUS discussion about what the use of that sign signifies and the appropriateness of it. You can't discount what the symbol means. And when she says she knows EXACTLY what it means???
December 9, 201312 yr Author And when she says she knows EXACTLY what it means??? We then have a discussion about repping herself and her family.
December 9, 201312 yr We then have a discussion about repping herself and her family. Isn't it a little late at that point???
December 9, 201312 yr Author Isn't it a little late at that point??? Never too late to teach lessons.
December 9, 201312 yr The "shocker" of this is that it's girls... That's my reaction exactly. Not that it would be any better, but I would understand it more if it was boys doing it...after all it's a "degrading" sexual gesture towards girls. The way these girls appear, they seem "proud"...kind of like saying "yeah, I like the shocker, do it to me". Not the proudest moment for daddy's little girls.
