December 6, 201312 yr Seems like I heard he had a child that had some issues. He wanted to stay close so child could continue with doctors.
December 7, 201312 yr Seems like I heard he had a child that had some issues. He wanted to stay close so child could continue with doctors. This is the one starting HS. He is healthy now, which played into the timing of the move, according to ESPN.
December 7, 201312 yr I don't know that his profile has taken a hit at all. Keep in kind that there are also reports that Peterson was in negotiations with USC and he turned them down because of the AD. Maybe Boise goes away, maybe not- but they still get a ton of TV exposure and are in a very winnable conference, so time will tell. Peterson will reportedly be one of the highest paid coaches in the conference and he takes over a team that finished 8-4 in the second toughest conference in the country. It is a solid gig, IMO. Don't get me wrong he's still a solid coach and Washington is a solid program on the rise. However, I'm just saying when the BCS streak ran out his job offers went from USC and the big boys to that second or third tier. If Boise was the same as five years ago he would still have those big offers, now not so much. Coaching is a what have you done for me lately type of deal. His past has been better than his recent past.

His past has been better than his recent past. He could have had USC this off season and he said no, according to a report I heard on ESPN today. The biggest jobs that are open right now are USC and Washington- he had his choice of gig. He is getting over $3 mil per season. I guess he could have waited to see if Texas or Florida opened up, but he is a west coast guy who was raised Washington. Nothing about this scenario reads that his brand has diminished or that he is taking a second rate job, IMO.
December 7, 201312 yr My guess is geography and minimal pressure. Yep. An area he wants to live with a good pay upgrade, and without irrational expectations. Plus, he has done just about everything he could do at Boise. His work was done there. ….going to sound out of the norm, but this hire and him taking this job (especially over the others in the past that he was in the conversation about) makes total sense to me.
December 7, 201312 yr Washington got a better coach than USC, I love it! Still trying to figure out USC's hire. I'm surprised that USC passed on Petersen.

December 9, 201312 yr OK, who is next on the carousel at Boise? I heard from an Orange Blood that Dirk Koetter, who was the head coach there before he left for Arizona St. and is currently the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, will be rehired by Boise in the next week or so. Take it for what it is worth.
December 12, 201312 yr Gotta go to a decent program in a BCS conference. Much better chance to win National Championship at Washington. If he did turn down USC, I find that confusing. USC is a top 10 program in BCS and much more likely to get better recruits.

December 16, 201312 yr I think this is a solid/good move for him and I think it will also benefit Boise State very well.
