My hatred for Umpires is well documented on here but if you are a coach you can not do this. Your better off just punching them in the face and leaving the kids out of it!! (kidding)

 

You need to watch the whole 2 minutes to get a feel for what happened but the incident occurs at the 1:39 mark.

 

Wow, Ump took it in stride and calmly walked towards the dug out...not sure I could have remained that calm.

 

Sad that coach put players into that situation. Coach should be banned from coaching at all levels more for involving the girls on his team than the actual beaning of the umpire.

Lots to consider here . First there is zero proof the coach ordered it . Girls at that age and level know every trick in the book .. I saw that coming a mile away. So the girls might have done it on their own. I have no problem with retaliation IF it is protecting one of my own players . Who knows what this blue might or might not have done to have this dirty trick pulled on him. Dont think fastpitch is some clean game played by angels , its dog eat dog at the top. I've seen dozens of intention beanings , this just happened to be a blue getting plunked .

Looks like the catcher was ejected also. I saw this exact same situation in baseball. Catcher missed the ball on purpose and umpire got beaned. If I recall, the play cost the catcher the scholarship offer that he had.

I don't care how many pitches he may have missed or how many blown calls he made, this action is unacceptable. Under no circumstances do you intentionally try to harm someone. Would it be so funny and acceptable to you if the umpire was seriously injured? What lesson is the coach teaching his players? If you don't like how the official is calling the game, let's hurt him! He should be fired and banned for life and the pitcher and catcher should be kicked off the team. This is sickening and I can't believe you or anyone would try to justify their actions and call this a trick!

You are right we don't know the whole story, but that 2 minute clip sure looks bad for that coach and those girls.

 

I wonder if everyone would be upset if a boy catcher did this instead of a girl? Again its wrong either way just wondering..

I wouldn't blame the girls even if they were a willing party to this, at that level the coaches have so much influnence on them.

its likely the coach ordered it , but we have zero clue what was said in that huddle . Heck for all we are 100% certain the catcher possibly could have left the pitcher uninformed as to what was going on . I know -- its unlikely but before we crucify everyone involved the facts should be considered . We dont know what was said in that huddle.

As far as intentionally harming the ump -- I do assume there is a extremely small chance he could have been injured . He does wear head and chest protection and I've never seen a ump seriously injured from a pitch before -- bruised arms and shins for sure but that setup was for embarrasing the blue not injuring him. NO I dont condone it and NO it shouldnt happen . Would like to know the whole story before making a final judgement. And some of you must not get out much, I've seen far worse by 12u hockey players ( slashing a players head with a stick )

It's obvious the coach ordered this. The catcher looks over to the dugout just before the incident. I like how the base umpire steps in and takes control to help his partner.
