December 3, 201312 yr Reading the threads from yesterday's ROAD WIN on the West Coast, that virtually locked up the AFCN title, and the only thing focused on is Dalton. The truth about Dalton is very clear. He's a solid QB that is not capable of winning a Super Bowl. Sure, there's the possibility he could pull a Flacco from last year and get hot at the right time and do it, but that's very unlikely. Here's the problem with that though. Who do you replace him with? I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say this is the most talented Bengals team ever assembled, outside of the QB position. If you determine Dalton isn't the guy, are you going to waste the prime of the rest of your roster by throwing in a rookie that's going to need 2-3 years time to be at a level that gives them a chance to win big? By then the rest of the roster will have missed their window. Address the position through Free Agency you say? I ask who? Finding a capable NFL starting QB is hard enough, let alone a guy that has the ability to win big in the playoffs. There are realistically only a handful of Super Bowl winning caliber QBs in the league (Brady, Big Ben, Manning (both), Rodgers, Brees, Wilson). Backup QBs right now are atrocious. The only two out there that could potentially be NFL starters are Mallet and Cousins. I don't see either as upgrades to Dalton, and neither is a sure thing. Then we've got Jay Cutler....Really? Are there really people who think he's good enough to win big? For one, the guy is always hurt. He makes poor decisions at crucial points in games, and he's an awful teammate. So my question to all those who say, "The Bengals Need to Find Themselves a New QB, Dalton Sucks!" is simple. What realistic options are there that will allow this team to improve the QB position, without wasting the primes of the rest of the roster?
December 3, 201312 yr Bortles in the draft is the solution. He has the size and arm to do amazing things with the team that has been assembled by Lewis.

December 3, 201312 yr Author That dude can play and is a significant upgrade over Dalton now. No way it's 2-3 years for him to be ready. :lol2: He's solid. I'll be shocked if he's ever an NFL starter though. It would be at least 2-3 years for him to be an every day NFL starter, at least.
December 3, 201312 yr That dude can play and is a significant upgrade over Dalton now. The Dalton that has 3 straight 3,000 yard seasons, has made the playoffs every year he has been a QB in the NFL and has had a trip to Hawaii? That one? He is a nice player and I admire your passion for touting him around different threads, but to act like he'd be better if plugged-in today is just silly. UKMF hit the nail on the head.
December 3, 201312 yr UKMF, I've been preaching this same thing to my Bengal-fan friends. Finding an elite QB is extremely difficult and doesn't happen for most teams. Be glad you've got an outstanding defense that helps you win games and a middling QB that does OK when he keeps his head screwed on about what he's capable of doing -- it was the Minnesota recipe for a playoff berth last year with a MUCH WORSE quarterback in Christian Ponder. There's no cure for Dalton because solid quarterbacks aren't just sitting around waiting to be picked up.

December 3, 201312 yr I still believe Bortles would be an upgrade over an undersized Dalton. Atleast he wouldn't get 2 or 3 balls batted down at the line of scrimmage every game. He's not Montana, but an upgrade over the current guy.
December 3, 201312 yr Bortles in the draft is the solution. He has the size and arm to do amazing things with the team that has been assembled by Lewis. He's been in tight games with Memphis, Houston and South Florida where he threw for a total of 2 TDs and 3 INT. Real murders row. Just screams of a guy ready to win a Super Bowl next year...

John Skelton is 6'6" and somehow the puny Dalton and the brutal John Johnson beat him out....and he has won games in the NFL. I wish your nephew from Orlando all the luck in the world though!!

Is that a good or bad thing? Are there better realistic options available?
December 3, 201312 yr GT, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the whole Dalton thing. Do you see him as "the guy" here for the foreseeable future? Is that a good or bad thing? Are there better realistic options available? I tnihk he can continue to win with the Bengals, but he has got to do a better job limiting mistakes. You can't be a "game manager" and turn it over twice a week. I don't see any better options out there that they could get given draft position and moving to the top of the draft for one of the guys this year is a horrible idea. Dalton is the guy for the foreseeable future and it can be good enough for a deep playoff run if he quits shooting the offense in the foot a couple times a game...
December 3, 201312 yr UKFM's opening comment is correct on this one. As long as he doesn't go Schaub or Delhomme on us. He has shown brief moments of that.
