Sarkisian to be named USC head coach

Can you really? That you'd bail on these players after bringing them together just 6 weeks (or so) ago, you're going to take your ball and go home before their bowl game? How hollow does that make everything he told them about coming together through the Kiffin debacle seem? I think this is an act of immaturity that I'm certain he'll come to regret when the emotion comes out of the situation.

Let me also add again that the whole way this season has gone down, as well as the flavor-of-the-day Enfield hiring, just goes to point out how over his skis Pat Haden is in that job.

I said I understand it. Never said I agreed with it. If I were an employer I'd be hesitant to hire someone who obviously acts on emotional impulses.

I see both sides. Teams are going to start letting coaches go this week, so you have to move in right away and establish yourself as the coach for a team and get recruiting. It is easy from afar to talk about his lack of integrity when he could be compromising his own future by hanging around to coach for 30 more days.

Where did I say his move lacked integrity? I said it was immature and that it paints everything he sold to those players (that they've talked about in pressers ad nauseum) in a different light.

I'm also quite familiar with how College Football hiring practices work, and made my statement with that information in mind. The message he would send to AD's around the country by staying would be powerful, especially given his track of record of success isn't without blips.

The insinuation was that it was lacking integrity, not sure how you can dispute that. Hollow, immaturity, bailing. Forgive me for connecting the dots and just summarizing your point in to a simple phrase. :lol2:

And if the job he wanted was already gone because of his refusal to leave USC to coach in the Dollar Shave Club Bowl??? It sounds great in theory, but sadly the other school's ADs could give a flip about how he handles being shoved out the door. His best shot of getting a big boy job is to make himself available.

I would have at least had another job lined up. And maybe he does.

If acting immature and making hollow claims are evidence of having no integrity, than that group would be HUGE. It is a matter of semantics, and not one I care to worry about, but no, I don't think his actions make Ed Orgeron a man of questionable integrity. That is a very serious claim, I'm not one to judge so flippantly regarding a man's integrity, but I think he acted out of emotion and an immature fashion...yes.

I'm thrilled that you're able to speak for what AD's around the country value and are evaluating in candidates. I had no idea you were connected at that level.

If Ed Orgeron was a candidate for a "big boy" job, he wouldn't have been an assistant to Boy Wonder this year. He'll end up as an assistant at a top program, or as a head coach at a MAC-level school, and my guess is he'll regret bailing on these players that rallied behind him (quite successfully, I may add).

Another job lined up? In his free time running USC and trying to prove to Pat Haden he was the right guy, he was also flying around the country interviewing for jobs? You don't think he would have been reluctant to look like he was looking for jobs while he was trying to impress Pat Haden? I truly believe he thought he was getting this job up until the announcement he wasn't, and that is why he knee-jerked so dramatically yesterday afternoon.

I don't think he is a bad guy or lacking integrity, I just believe he should have taken a few deep breaths before stomping out of there.

Again, the players are who I truly feel badly for through all of this. The bond that they felt with Coach O. was clear and evident.

I wanted Ed to get the job, but, I am behind Steve Sarkisian as head Coach of THE USC Trojans!!! Fight On!!!

I think Ed was sorely mistaken if he thought he was going to get the job. The Trojans had a nice 5-6 game winning streak, or whatever it was, but he had a horrific track record as a head coach. A nice audition he exhibited but he was naive to think he didn't need more of a resume to ascend to that position. The risk was too much. Had he been given the job and stunk up the joint, talk about the ultimate pie in the face. I actually think Haden made the right call with this one. He didn't get caught up in the Orgeron emotional train.

The emotion the kids played with for a while was going to fade. Hiring interim based on the boys playing well usually doesn't work out. See Bill Stewart at WVU. Ed learned a lot after being fired at Ole Miss and I think now he will be a better header than he was then, just not at USC. This just improved his resume for the next job.

A little off the subject but Jay Bilas has been tweeting about this and the hipocracy of the NCAA. @JayBilas, "A school hires another coach in season from the same conference but no tampering, no sitting out..thats only for the players."

So did Lane Kiffin!

I dunno. I know most folks this side of the Mississippi were never sold on Kiffin.

Jay being Jay.

And totally right.

I agree, I've said several times in this thread I think Sarkisian is a great hire for them.

Maybe, I like Sark. I guess I am more in the "not a smart move to hire Orgeron after a a solid 6 game run" camp.

Don't misunderstand my comments about Orgeron earlier, I wouldn't have hired him either. I couldn't agree with you more that he would have been the wrong guy and would have been hired for the wrong reason.

Interesting take, not sure I'm with you. So I'm clear, you saying he flames out or blows up and moves on?

Sorry I'm late to respond....

I think he's a fine coach but I don't think he can handle what USC is going to bring.

Look at Kiffin, had the better track record and even coached the NFL and couldn't handle USC before they gave him the boot.

I understand he was an assistant there when they had the glory days but this is different now.

I just don't see him returning them to prominence and I think USC gives him the boot before his contract is up.

And totally right.

I don't. I like Jay and think he is normally spot on but he missed here. Coaching is a job and is governed by contracts.
