Are Highlands fans so bored with their success that they won't bother to make the trip down to Bowling Green to see the Birds win another state title because the trip to BG is "too long" to make to watch a non-competitve state final or is this an isolated case? How many Highlands fans will be making the trip this week? Or is too long to go watch a boring, non-competitve game even though it is the state final?

Where does everyone get that this is going to be a non-competitive game and boring and blah, blah, blah. The REAL fans of the program will be in Bowling Green. Just sayin

That's a good and fair question. I wouldn't say bored, but I won't be going. For me, there is a lot going on in my world (4 kids!). When it does take up an entire day and there is always a chance of a blowout, you do have to weigh whether it's worth the trip or not. No disrespect to Collins. I actually hope it's competitive and wish them luck. But it's reality. I am a HHS fan, but I am also committed in a bunch of other ways. If it were in Lexington, Richmond or Lousiville, I'd think harder about going. It's much easier to get away for 5-6 hours. But when there is 6 hours of just drive time, I have other commitments and there is a chance to go down there and see a blowout, you have to weigh if it makes sense. I do feel bad for not supporting our boys, but reality sometimes hits home. If you were to ask me "if this was their first or if they hadn't won one in awhile, would I go?" Probably yes, I would. That may sound terrible to some, but it's reality and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Probably too honest, but it is what it is. I don't have a boy playing and I have seen many of the championships...and have traveled to see many blowouts. So I would be a fan that teters on whether to travel or not.

If KY football were classed the way it should be, it wouldn't be nearly as "easy"...or maybe a better way of saying is as some have put it...it wouldn't be as "non-competitive" as it has been much of the time for HHS. And I'm not posting this to stat another "are there too many classes" thread, I'm just stating the obvious. There are several schools this comment could probably apply to as well, HHS arguably just seems to have benefitted the most. And it's not HHS fault, they play who is in front of them, they play in the class they are supposed to the way it's currently drawn up, and they dominate. And they work hard to do it. It just is what it is until it isn't any more. When and if that changes who knows. But I will say, IF there ARE any HHS fans out there that are "bored" with the success they have...well there are plenty of other schools up in that area who aren't as successful who you could root for and use your support. I think a Boone Co fan would trade seasons with you in a heartbeat.

I guess my point is...though I don't know how this will go over...as the old saying goes "don't look a gift horse in the mouth". Take it and run with it and be happy with the success and if a blowout occurs be glad HHS is on the whooper end and not the whoopee. Believe me, it's no fun being on the whoopee end, re: Anderson Co vs BG in the state final 2 years ago.

I wont be making the trip not becuase I think it will be a blowout just because I have things going on as well like RCC said. I think it will be a good game and for those who are not going because they think it will be blowout will probable wish they went after the fact. I think HHS will win by a couple of scores in the end but should be a good game. I think that its fair for someone who does not have a kid playing and it being the 7th straight year for them not to make the 3 to 3.5 hour trip.

I probably agree with that assessment.

And as far as fans not going...well if the only reason someone isn't going is because they think it will be a blowout, then I'm not sure that person is really a fan to start with. I understand people have a ton of things going on this time of year and maybe can't make the time and don't have the money to go, but would if they could. Even the biggest fan might not be able to go because of those reasons. Perfectly understandable if that's the case.

First off, I can't stand 6 classes, I want to get that out there...it's too many; simply just for travel if nothing else.

 

But, I'm not so sure it makes life any easier for many of the teams playing; compared to sports like basketball.

 

One would think it's easier just bc of shear numbers in the classes, but I'm not so sure it would be for many.

We have been to the Bowling Green area once this year. Many fans made the trip to John Hardin.

 

We have been to Paducah this year. Our fans outnumbered the PT fans even though it was a 5 hour drive.

 

Last week, in the bitter cold, we traveled to Lexington and outnumbered the LexCath fans.

 

Wackem gives a perspective of the non-parent, non-alumni group. I can see where they would balk at spending the entire day on the road to watch the local team play. No big deal.

 

HHS fan base will be well represented. Parents alone will be almost 200 fans. Siblings and other students will more than double that number. Alumni and other relatives will be several hundred more. Students representing the school (the football team, band, cheerleaders, and dance team) will number 175.

 

Maybe someone can do a head count at kickoff. I'm guessing the Birds will have all the fan support they need and deserve.

This is is what I expect. I was shocked to see Whackem's post about not wanting to travel to BG because it will be a blowout. I've seen Highlands fans say some crazy stuff but that blew my mind. I've seen the Highlands can support first hand and fan support is another thing that Highlands has that other schools could emulate as well. I've never heard a Highlands fans say they don't want to go to the state final game because it is blowout and not worth the travel. I'm still mad I can't go to the BG game this Saturday night.

I guarantee you if HHS was playing BG in the finals (because they were in the same class), I would absolutely be going to see HHS give BG their first loss!!!

You really have to break this question into two groups: parents/family of those involved/on the team vs Highlands fans with no blood in the game.

 

I could see where the 2nd would not make the trip to BG. It's nothing new for them and they don't have anyone playing/coaching. I get that.

 

The fact this is even a question speaks to just how far above and beyond almost every other team in KY that HHS is today.
