On the field, Winston is easily the winner. Especially as all these other candidates tank. Manziel had the worst game of his career today. Mariota and Petty each put up some stats, but their teams got CRUSHED. For Mariota it was his second loss in three weeks.

 

At this point, if not for the off the field complications, there would be absolutely no doubt on Winston, none. If charges aren't filed before ballots are due, I think he still gets it, albeit not by the margin he should. If charges are filed, yes, probably done. If not Winston, I guess I could see McCarron.

Winston is the clear front-runner, however his off-field issues could keep him from winning it. Awarding the Heisman to a (potential) rapist isn't a good look for the voters.

 

With that said, I think McCarron wins it. Definitely hasn't had the best season though.

With the other candidates losing momentum (on and off the field) I'm starting to think AJ gets the "Lifetime Achievement" award.

Regarding Winston, right or wrong, does it really matter if / when charges are filed? This is a human vote, I think the damage has been done to his candidacy.

If they announce prior to the end of voting that no charges are to be filed, I think it makes a huge difference. If it's still lingering out there, then yes, it may be too damaging to overcome.

 

They've taken some informal polls of the voting populace, and it seems they're split down the middle. Some have said it would have no bearing at all if he hasn't been charged, and some have said it's too murky without something definitive. My thinking is, if even 50% decide the lack of a definitive outcome isn't enough to cause them not to vote for him, his play on the field makes it a done deal. There is no arguing that McCarron has been more impressive on the field, because he hasn't. He's simply the squeaky clean best of a bad lot trailing Winston in that arena.

I'm not entirely certain the ballots have even been sent yet. The only time frame I've seen is "late November" for them to be mailed. We do know they are due by December 7th. I think if anyone is taking the responsibility seriously, they're waiting until they know one way or the other for certain on Winston to turn in their vote, or at least wait until they no longer have a choice.

 

I am an FSU fan, so yes, it does matter to me more than others. I'm just relaying what I'm reading at this point. Winston is still the leader in basically every Heisman watch I can find. I've read multiple accounts of Heisman voters (of which there are over 900) saying that it should be just on the field, while some others did say the current status pushes them to not voting for him. We'll just have to see.
