Oprah on the other hand has done no more than others. Angelie Jolie has done just as much if not more than Oprah.

Oprah has donated some serious jack over the years. Hate her politics. Hate her show. You can't argue that she spends money to try to help people.

Come on, we know some of these are politically motivated, no different than any previous Presidents. As always when awards are presented in HOF's, entertainment, Noble Prizes, etc. There will ALWAYS be people that disagree. I take these with a "just the way it is". Never been a big deal with me.

Don't know if she is "politically" motivated, but she was at the forefront of the women's rights movement back in the day.

 

And she received Kennedy Center honors by none other than President George W. Bush. Eleven years ago.

Oprah donations. Maybe she is very deserving.

Dean Smith supported, helped and stood arm in arm with black citizens in the 60's in their struggle for equal rights, when it was a VERY unpopular stand in somes eyes for him to do so at the time...and also at a time when he was not the ingrained coach he would become later on. His stance could have easily gotten him fired.

Why the timing of this now, I don't know. But Dean Smith did a LOT for race relations.
