oldrambler Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Pikeville (11-1) travels to Raceland (10-2) for a Regional Championship Contest sending the winner to the 1A State Semifinals. Pikeville's one loss was to State 3A powerhouse Belfry and Raceland has losses at 4A Ashland Blazer by one point in OT and a stinging homecoming loss to 3A Lawrence Co by three. Both Ashland and LCHS played in their regions semifinal and Belfry is still alive and the favorite in 3A. So, both the Rams and Panthers losses were to quality teams. Pikeville has sent Raceland packing with a loss in the last two seasons playoffs. Both the Panthers and Rams can put points on the scoreboard and are good defensively as well. Pikeville, I believe is one of the highest scoring offense's in the state. Both the Rams and Panthers are very good football teams that can imo compete with anyone in 1A. I think that this one, as most games will be decided on the line of scrimmage along with turnovers, who makes the fewer mistakes, both mental and physical. This one no doubt will be a tough, hard hitting football game. What are everyone's thoughts, comments and predictions on this Regional Championship game ?
Voice of Reason Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 We have some "over the hump" matchups this week in 1A, and this is one of them. Can Raceland finally get the job done over a team that has eliminated them the past couple seasons? Both teams seem to be playing at a high level and putting one of their best teams of the past few seasons on the field. I am looking forward to the discussion and the game.
rookie57 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Would love to see this game. I'm picking and hoping for a Rams win.
MHSCardinal Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I feel these 2 teams offensives are superior to the defenses, so, I expect it to be a high scoring affair. I would like to see this game, as well, in a matchup of 2 traditionally strong small school teams. Good luck to both. 1 minute, I'm thinking Raceland and the next I'm thinking Pikeville. Think the kicking game may be a big decider in this one. What can anyone tell me about these teams kicking games?
The Cerebral Assassin Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Think the kicking game may be a big decider in this one. What can anyone tell me about these teams kicking games? For Raceland, this is David Pennington's first year of playing football. He had previously played soccer before moving to Raceland, and so far his kicking has gotten better and better as the season has progressed. I don't think the coaches would hesitate to put him on the field to kick with the game on the line.
oldrambler Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 Nice article in this mornings paper......Daylan Beach ran for 195 yds., 3 td's !! Beach, Raceland roll past Paintsville, 42-12 » Local Sports » Daily Independent (Ashland, KY)
Toothpick Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 This is a pin the tail on the donkey game for me. I can't really get a feel for who I think is the favorite here
sidelinedoc Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Here you go. A little tidbit for the undecided. The home team has won every game in recent memory between these teams. Last year, Raceland won 54-14 at home in week 3 and lost at Pikeville 27-21 in OT in Regional Semi-Final game. It may have been 26-20 doesn't matter and I refuse to look back to confirm. It still stings too badly.
