Will Cody McPeek be eligible to play at Ashland next season?

Featured Replies

You do realize this is the son of the former Fairview Principal/AD/Assistant Football coach that supposedly missed that a player was held back and played High School Football five years, right?

I do. But I don't believe a HS player get's to make decisions for his father. I know that what Fairview did was wrong but those were adults making those decisions. I doubt this kid had a voice at that table.

Two things regarding the attack on Ashland. First, he chose to enroll there and they have a football team. If the KHSAA says he is eligible he should be allowed to play wherever it is he is enrolled. Second, there is no way that Ashland could have known that they might benefit from turning in others. That kid could have enrolled in any school, or simply stayed put.

Presumptuous to assume they had any motivation to their reporting of something others DID wrong.

Does Ashland take tuition students? I can't remember what was discussed in the other thread and I'm way too lazy to read it again. If so, what's the big deal? Heck, the KHSAA let's guys change schools all the time.

I don't know and/or haven't heard or really care but I just am not so certain that he will be at Ashland next season. His father may have just moved him out of Fairview for the rest of this school year due to them / father, uncle getting caught up in the football scandal.

Then again, I am not sure of the rule on it but the way that Fairview was bringing in and playing some of the W.VA kids was to bring them in FHS in one year and not playing them until a certain number of games had passed in the next school year, season. I'll give the superintendent and former principal one thing...they have/had a system, time will tell if they continue.

What penalties have been levied against Fairview? I've been out of the loop because I'm moving and haven't had Internet at home for a few days.

If they were given a "death penalty" similar to Rose Hill where they won't be playing KHSAA member schools next year, then maybe the Cessation of School Program exception could apply.

The question was "How will he be eligible" I dont know, but I gave two instances of a dad losing a coaching job and not changing addresses and his son being allowed to transfer without sitting in the 16th region within the last 3-5 years. Was this taken into consideration when being considered? I don't know but if it was then there is definitely precedence in this situation.

I agree. I would think a parent's changing employment to a new school would be strongly considered if someone were making their case for a discretionary waiver.

Agreed, my problems are with the Farview schools, superintendent, principal-asst. coach, former head coach and a couple on the school board that n doubt All were involved in the cheating, total disregard for ethics at Fairview. NOT the kids, the McPeek kid is one helluva football player and I wish him the best wherever he may play next season.

Post season ban for this season

Cannot have a Spring 2014 practice, conditioning, workouts, etc.. - Cannot start any football activity, practice until the fall, legal opening of the pre season 2014 football practice.

4 years probation

khsaa to monitor / check all activities, books for Fairview football.

Rose Hill and now Fairview. What did the nice folks of Ashland do to make the KHSAA so annoyed? a little cheating? heck, got to be more than that, doesn't there?

It has been reported in other threads, most recently the Monday Morning QB article (LINK) that Ram posted, that Fairview lineman, Cody McPeek has enrolled at Ashland and will play next season.

How is it that he can transfer to another local school and not have to sit out a year?

Which of the exceptions to Bylaw 6 (LNK) does he meet that will allow him to qualify for a waiver of the 1 yr period of ineligibility?

Are we 100% sure that Bylaw 6 has to apply? I'm asking because I really don't know. It seems like there'd be an exception for cases where the parent stays in the same home but gets a job at a school. It may seem weird to some, but for an employee who lives in an area like Louisville or Northern Kentucky and the parent gets a transfer but doesn't move, I could see this coming up often enough that there'd be a bylaw addressing it. Then again, I could see why they wouldn't want a bright line rule regarding this, as a school system could offer a parent a token job just to get around the rule.

Backspin et al, I am sorry that my thoughts and how I am typing them aren't meshing. I am simply asking why would Ashland want any of these kids from programs that are breaking rules? I realize that Cody can't control his father or uncle or his school's superintendent. I am not attacking Ashland. I like the school and the athletic program and I am friends with some of the coaches. I just don't understand why they just don't ask them to go somewhere else?

Maybe so the kid can get a good education?

I am an Ashland fan, but looking at this without my maroon goggles on, I really cannot see why Ashland would turnirview iget a transfer or two. The more logical reason for turning them in is that it was a kid that transfered out of Ashland to Fairview, so Ashland obviously knew e ddidn't have eligibility after last season.

How can a school turn away kids that live in their district? Plus, if McPeek ruled out ever school that complained about fair view"....

I would love to hear Dickie Martin's take on all this. I'm sure it would be hypocritical as usual.
