Not a personal attack. I was stating the obvious from information gathered in this topic. You advocate people not standing up for themselves. I will never agree that is a good thing. To me advocating that is promoting people to be door mats.

You had the same point of view as me on the CC runner. I also said I admired her for standing up for her beliefs, simply I thought they were silly. Standing up for a religious belief during a race is not even in the same realm as standing up to a bully and getting your butt kicked, then having the bullying intensify. What good does that do?

 

I sure did. At least she stood up for herself and she's just a kid. That's more than what Martin appeared to do.

 

Could they have fought? Possibly. Could more teammates have come to Martin's defense had he stood up for himself? Possibly? What if they had fought and Martin won?

 

We'll never know because he, grown man, got his feelings hurt when the OLine stood up and left his lunch table when he sat down and he went home to mommy and daddy because he couldn't take it anymore.

I don't even think it's that. It's about a culture that says that this behavior is not only acceptable... it's necessary. This isn't schoolyard bullying, it's something else. And whatever it is, it's unacceptable for grown men, whatever their job is.

I'll give all of you five to one that Martin's suffering from clinical depression and that CTE from playing football is at the root of it.

 

That's the real reason that the NFL and the Dolphins are in such damage control over this. They don't care if he's "soft", they want to make sure no one looks closely at why this affected him so greatly. They want him to go away.

He may be shocked by us but I guarantee you I'm way more appalled by his advocating a lack of backbone.

You can't compare middle school aged kids to grown men. That's where you misconstrue the whole concept of bullying. Any ADULT who allows another adult to bully them is getting what they deserve. You better act like you are grown.

That is possible also. Maybe he and his family should focus more on that to see if that has legs and then sue the Dolphins or NFL instead of lashing out at something that he apparently put up a front about for the last two years.

And what then? The culture says that as the new guy, he's supposed to sit there and take it. Deviation from that would have broken the code as well.

Standing up for yourself is something I 100% advocate . It's an important lesson and quality for any respectable person to have. What you will not see from me in here is advocating violence or the use of violence as a first resort.
