October 28, 201312 yr Just curious what Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have to say about this? My guess is not a damn thing, as it doesn't fit their agenda.

Not to thread jack but why would two self proclaimed activists for black people say anything about this anyways? I could understand if they were proclaiming to be for the equality of all Americans but they don't do that and they never have. Of course this doesn't fit their agenda. I'm not sure why Jesse and Al are brought up everytime something like this happens. This ain't their struggle.

What if there were a white Jesse and Al, would they be destroyed as racist and marginalized if they came out calling this a case about the race of the victim and the suspects? FWIW there will never be a White Jesse and Al. The media and society would never allow someone to be as openly racist as a white person as they are as black men.

FWIW there will never be a White Jesse and Al. The media and society would never allow someone to be as openly racist as a white person as they are as black men. But they aren't openly racist. They are openly single minded advocates for black people but they aren't racist. You're confusing their over zealousness in some cases as racism. Reverend Wright is/was way more openly racist than Jesse and Al combined. I'm open to evidence that prove Jesse and Al to be openly racist. There are white Jesses and Als. They just aren't as open as Jesse and Al with their agendas. Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity come to mind. Bill O'Reilly is another and in some cases he is worse than Rush and Sean but to me all 3 are equivalent to Jesse and Al. What Bill O'Reilly did to Ludacris also comes to mind.

I agree Racist may not have been the right term to describe them, but if there was a white person constantly fanning the flames of race as those two do he would be called a Racist. If someone was a single minded advocated for whites they would be called a racist, by the media and society. I think where many get upset is that anytime there is a white on black crime it automatically must be because the white man was a racist, when in fact he may just be a thug criminal not necessarily a racist. But when there is black on white crime rarely does race take front stage in reporting and even less so when prosecuting the case. I can't really speak on Rush, Hannity or O'Reilly have seen or heard an hours worth of their programming in last 7-8 years.

I can't really speak on Rush, Hannity or O'Reilly have seen or heard an hours worth of their programming in last 7-8 years. Disagree. I think they try to pick their cases wisely and when a case like Trayvon Martin makes national news they jump all in and their agenda is and always has been the perceived injustice of black people. There are actual cases that happen daily that could be racially motivated from whites to blacks that they don't touch. For example, I haven't heard a peep from either of them about the two black actors who were racially profiled in South Carolina. Maybe it's because they are F-List actors, I dont know. I'll agree that they deserve a lot of the backlash they get, but they aren't racist. They do have an agenda. The reason there isn't a white Jesse or Al is because there has never been a need to have the injustices of white people brought into a national conversation. I'll start a Jesse and Al thread sometime today. We shouldn't threadjack the issue of the inital post any longer. I'll move our posts in there also.
October 28, 201312 yr Lawnboy's initial post is concerning the attack and murder of a WWII Veteran by 4 punks who all happen to be black. I didn't want to threadjack anymore so I moved those posts in here. Carry on....
October 28, 201312 yr For the record, I am asking for folks to tell me how they really feel about Jesse and Al. I don't agree with some of their tactics and some of the things they have said in the past but they were a needed and essential voice for black people at one time. While I am not sure their representation is as necessary today as it was in their heyday I will say that they have served their cause pretty well. I don't need either of them to speak for me but I understand why the people that do love Jesse and Al love them so much. I don't think they are as bad as people make them out to be. I think they are victims of telling people(white people) what they don't want to hear.

October 28, 201312 yr I respect their opinions . If they among others don't stand up for their Black constituents then who will and they do it with panache . More power to them .
October 28, 201312 yr Did someone start a thread in my name? Yeah, when I moved the posts in here they put them in here by time so I started the thread but your post is the first one.
October 28, 201312 yr There are many more issues in black America that Jesse and Al should use there panache, celebrity, influence and pulpit to work to influence. Your right they do pick and chose their cases for national publicity.
October 28, 201312 yr My opinion? Jesse and Al are shake down artists who are all about what will make them the most money, period. I think the welfare of the black community takes second place to that always.

I didn't want to threadjack anymore so I moved those posts in here. Carry on.... Were the four punks arrested and are now being prosecuted? If so, I don't now why anyone would want Jesse and Al to take up the cause, the justice system is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Where Jesse and Al get all fired up is when it looks like the justice system is light on whites due to the victim being black (often seen when police use force on black suspects and many wonder if it was too much force or down in Florida with Zimmerman). In this case, I believe the punks are being prosecuted as usual so I don't see why anyone needs to get up in arms. I cannot believe I just defended Al and Jesse.
