I am pleased that the KHSAA didn't just let this go with the fine. Hopefully this will set an example for Fairview as well as any other program that may be thinking of lying and/or cheating.

I agree. All-in-all, I have to say I think the ruling is fair for what has occurred at Fairview over the recent past. I think it screams, "We know what you are doing, but we are not going to dig any further" "this time".

 

If it was a simple case of ONE ineligible player, I think this ruling may be seen as "severe". But, we all know this was about a lot more then just one player and so did the KHSAA. That is the reason for the severity of these mandates.

 

I think the post-season ban was simple added due to the way Fairview handled and responded to LAST year's violation. That was the KHSAA getting the last word on that case.

Fairview has Absolutely No One to Blame but themselves, Superintendent B. Musick !

I think this was the Pre-release, release of the KHSAA finding. Some of these were surely suggested by Fairview, but I truly doubt they suggested the post-season ban.

 

I think it was obvious that Fairview suggested the resignation of the head coach and AD, and forfeiter of the 18 games. I would say the others were added by the KHSAA, just my speculation.

I read the article and if Bill Musick's hands are as dirty as many say they are, then a few of his comments in the article are, just, wow.

 

Apparently the blanket of accountability is wide enough to cover everyone except the man at the top. A lot of "we" and not enough "I" when talking about who's to blame...

 

“We, as a staff at Fairview Schools, accept the responsibility for what has transpired,” Musick said.

 

“When this issue with the athletic department surfaced, no one was more heartbroken than I,” said Musick in his office on Thursday. “I’ve played here, coached here, was principal here and now am the superintendent here. It’s pretty obvious how much I care for this program.”

 

Musick said all personnel issues go through the superintendent. The school board has nothing to do with personnel except hiring the superintendent, he said.

 

"We've got to hold everybody accountable,” Musick said.

Watusi, it's obvious the brunt of the blame fell on the Head Coach and AD. They fell, or were pushed, on the grenade.

Of course the KHSAA has no authority there, but you would think the School Board of Education would be taking a very hard look at the leadership qualities and integrity of their Superintendent. The BOE represents the citizens and it will be interesting to see if this leads to any repercussions at all from the BOE towards Musick.

I don't think it matters, it was rumored prior to this violation that Music was to retire in the spring. I'd say he's gone anyway.

I'd be shocked if they came up with the post-season ban on their own. They have said several times in the paper that they are hoping the KHSAA allows "our kids" to play". That came from the KHSAA, maybe a suggestion to the Super to add that, but I say it was rooted in the KHSAA.

ASHLAND — Just a fair warning … if Fairview and Raceland meet up again in this year's regional finals, whoever I pick is automatically the underdog.

 

Over the last two seasons, I'm 0 for 2 in predicting this matchup. For some reason, I do myself no favors by going with the away team, too.

 

So, I annually brace myself for a good lambasting or roasting from the home side.

 

Friday night had nothing to do with the Monday Morning Quarterback, though. It was all about the Rams, and they made that clear from the get-go.

 

Sure, Fairview showed some signs of life, but overall it was a dominant (and near flawless) effort by Raceland. The Rams did all their roasting on the field.

 

Given how heated and how important this rivalry game is year-in and year-out, it's surprising that only one of the previous seven meetings has been decided by fewer than 13 points.

 

Cars lined up in the grassy area along U.S. 23 and fans encircled the premises — just a typical scene for the Rams and Eagles in Raceland.

‰Raceland needs a win over Paintsville this Friday to lock up a Class A, District 7 title.

 

‰Fairview must win its first two playoff games, the second of which likely being a clash with Pikeville at Pikeville. The Panthers, as Raceland witnessed last season, have been tough to beat at home in the postseason.

 

‰Raceland must also win its first two playoff games, which will both be at home given a win over Paintsville on Friday.

 

My prediction (which apparently carries little weight): See you in Raceland for the rematch in five weeks.

 

Absence Effect

 

Both Fairview and Raceland had to deal with significant injuries and, unfortunately for them, the story may be much the same if they meet again on Nov. 22.

 

Zack Litteral (broken leg) is out for the year for the Rams.

 

Fairview was missing starting defensive tackles Aaron Fitchpatrick (leg) and Billy Davis (back). They are done for the season. Also out was former starting defensive end Chris Perkins. Perkins, who has been out for the past three weeks, also will not return. According to coach Nathan McPeek, he is off the team due to a violation of team rules.

One question lingers for Fairview, though. Will junior Isaiah King, a defensive back and running back, be healthy in five weeks? He is currently out with a broken collarbone.

 

Got Any “Since?”

 

‰Johnson Central and Ashland haven’t played a game decided by fewer than 16 points at Putnam Stadium since … 2005. The series has included recent one-point outcomes (2009, 2012), but both contests were played in Paintsville. Games at Ashland haven’t been near as close since 2005, when the Tomcats prevailed 13-10.
