I think losing the last game of the season to Auburn would drop Bama to no better than third with no time to recover and it would be the Ducks and the Noles playing for the crystal football.

 

I can't see a one loss SEC school getting in ahead of the teams that are left near the top if they are undefeated.

 

Everyone (outside of the SEC) wants the SEC strangle hold to end and this may be the last chance in a while to break it...because once it goes to a 4 game playoff there will be an SEC school in the final 4 pretty much every season.

However, I can see the rationale for the SEC drum beaters to allow in an SEC foe to the title game. You can make a legit case they deserve it based upon winning the past 7 national titles. I still contend that is one of the more amazing records in sport's history.

Alabama and Oregon, but style points could come into play. Florida State has a chance. Hope it's not another year where a team like the 2003 Auburn squad goes undefeated but doesn't get a shot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what made that national championship choices worse were that both teams had 1 loss. Auburn was undefeated and in the SEC that's not easy to do. Auburn was screwed over that year.

Yep, I got that wrong. Should have looked it up before posting. But I still say Auburn should have been chosen over Oklahoma, who was routed by USC. I believe Auburn was rated 2nd in both human polls. Being from the tough SEC should have gotten them in the title game.

I didn't read everything reply in this thread but I think FSU is really good. My brother is convinced that Mizzou is the best team in the country. I haven't watched them play though so I don't know.

Mizzou is good, but hard to argue against Bama, and FSU.

Hindsight was 20/20. The SEC was not known to be as dominating as it is today in 2004. OU was coming off a recent title. One of the 3 teams was going to be screwed.

If all three were undefeated, I would say Alabama and Florida State.
