I've seen this strategy in other sports. Kids who aren't good enough to start/play at school A go to school B for a chance to start/play. Problem is, they still aren't better players than kids at school A. I don't know how you build a winning program that way.

 

You build a winning program at the Class 1-A level because you are playing at a level that you can compete at. You have a chance to post a winning record, make the playoffs and maybe win a playoff game or two on an annual basis. I think that would be attractive to some players who are not good enought to actually play at School A, but can participate, contribute, and succeed at School B.

 

By going back to 1-A we at least have a chance to carve out a niche of our own. Right now, there is no advantage to coming to "School B."

Eventually, hopefully our football program will grow to where we can compete successfully at 2-A. The past three years have been a total waste of our time competing in 2-A.

 

Our basketball program, which now does OK for itself in Division II (of three classes) played in Division I until 1996 when we were ready for a jump to the stiffer competition of Division II. Eventually we hope that our football program will follow suit.

#s will be the death of BB football. I tip my hat to the young men for all their hard work but its not going to happen. If you don't have enough kids to have a scout team in practice very hard to improve.

The trainer assessed the QB on the field. When the QB came off the field and sat on the bench, he was not in need of medical attention. He took a helmet directly to the elbow. Much like hitting your funny bone, except with a 180 lb kids helmet. All he needed was time to get the feeling back. Brossart has an experienced, quality trainer and it was handled appropriately.

 

Truth be told, a comparison to Holy Cross' early program would be a much more apt comparison because both programs began in the same era and are very close in size.

I've said it before, Brossart misses out by not having a position open in the school for a coach. There is no better way to recruit your own student body than being on the inside.

 

I also felt that a change in coaches after last season was due. I believe it was two years too late. However, the new coaches came in all hard core and had two starting linemen quit. Steffen and South would have helped this team to couple more wins.

 

These kids are busting their butts and gave very little quit in them. They just do not have enough "football players". What I mean by that is: their kids that play football. Most of them DO NOT live football (that it is the most important thing to them, push themselves in the wright room, study film, know the difference between a one technique and a three, know the difference between an out and a wheel...). Right now, they don't have that.

NCC called timeout leading 34-0, with the ball, with :30 before halftime?? Did that actually happen?

 

No problem with that as a Brossart fan. The standard now in HS football is to get to the running clock. Then call off the dogs.

Why was NewCath in a Cincinnati (Ohio) league??? From what I'm told.......The reason was they could not schedule enough Kentucky schools to qualify for the state football tournament. The Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference (NKAC) would not let private (catholic) schools in their conference and it was not to any public schools advantage to play a team that might beat them.

 

The 1966 NewCath team would have played in the Ohio High School playoffs that year (5-2 league record tied for 1st), but since they were a KY school they were not eligible to play in the Ohio High School Playoffs so Moeller got to go in their place.

The bolded would have been a neat trick since Ohio didn't start having playoffs until 1972.

 

Prior to that, state champions were determined by an AP vote.

Hopefully when they re-district that the NKY 1A consist of only Ludlow, Bellevue, Dayton, and Brossart with NCC and Beechwood in 2A.

 

I am curious at what Brossart's career record is against the current 1A teams. Obviously Beechwood they have never beaten, I don't think they have ever beaten Bellevue. I believe only beaten Ludlow once ever. Dayton they have beaten a couple of times though right?

True, we still have a long way to go, BUT with light at the end of the tunnel, I do believe that our kids will become more passionate about playing football and building a program.

 

I think we have beaten Ludlow once and Dayton twice.
