He led with shoulder and forearm and gave up at least 50 + pounds to the guy. Clearly the contact is initiated under this Hawkeyes players armpit and chest level. One, this "launch" concept must be better defined. So if you keep your feet and attempt to run thru the player it isn't a launch?

 

Two, do we tell players to stop and waive a flag informing the ball carrier we're about to tackle you. Here's a thought, throw the flag on the QB who leads their receiver into imminent threat because he misread the defense. See how silly this is becoming?

 

So if he runs through the player at the knees it's not a launch. But resulting damage is OK at the knee.

 

It's football in retrospect and with it comes risks. I envision my grandsons and I watching the 2025 Super Bowl being won by a flag being pulled off someones hip before they cross the end zone.

The Roby ejection is absurd. It was clearly forearm and shoulder. The Iowa guy's head snapped as a result of being hit, not from helmet to helmet contact. They e gotta change this rule.

The shoulder and helmet contact was simultaneous. By rule, this was clearly targeting. I don't like it any more than the next guy, but by definition, the refs got it "right." I've watched the replay 15 times. The crown of the defenders helmet makes contact with the face mask of the receiver.

Really... :57 proves you wrong, as well as other ejection advocates. If you can't see it, no worries, we'll agree to disagree. Helmet contact occurred after the Buckeye defender leads with the shoulder and forearm. The neck and head follow the chest ( which was the original point of contact ).

At :57, you can't see the simultaneous helmet/shoulder contact from that angle, because it happens in the front. Apparently you didn't read the original post in the thread, I am against the ejections. Hence the purpose of the thread. The guy hit high, on purpose, and he was penalized for it. I don't have a problem with the flag (other than the fact that they are ruining football), just the ejections.

He could have hit him lower than he did, and not been anywhere close to his knees. Again, I hate the ejection, but this penalty was warranted, IMO.
