Regardless, the posts above clarify she wasn't "partying", she had arrived just before the police. School administrators can be illogically rigid as they try to prevent any exceptions to their rules and this sure seems like one of those situations. If I were the girl's parents, I would be fighting this to the bitter end. If the current administration doesn't "see the light", that would include campaigning against current school board members and working to get the administrators replaced.

If this is their thinking, I'm concerned that the administrators at North Andover fail to realize what a monumentally stupid policy they've enacted.

I saw this story last night and am in completely disbelief. I tweeted about how dumb it was and that tweet was favorited by Erin's sister Emily. Just pointing out how your comparison to a restaurant is way off. I have no evidence or reason to believe "most at parties are 21 or older". Not really sure what you are saying here.

I think I know where you are trying to go with this but IMO, it doesn't matter. The friend was in the wrong no matter what. Erin was not. Whether everyone at the party was 15 or 25, she was doing the right thing, the thing that we should hope everyone would do.

Do schools regularly punish students for things that happen outside of school grounds. I know athletics have their own rules but regular students. If my student child gets a ticket for reckless driving, does that give the right for the school to punish them. I wouldn't think the school would have authority to punish students who were not part of a school party, school team, or on school grounds.

I'm with you. The friend was in violation of the Zero-Tolerance policy because she was drinking. If there are 25 year old people at the party, that doesn't change the fact that she was in violation of the policy.
