When speaking of players with High D-1 offer I only hear of 2 kids Hines and Cunningham. Come on folks. When I look at the so call ranking for the 14th region most have Cordia 3rd or 4th what are the real issues. These are Kids how many are national ranked by ESPN or Scout.com? so in essence why are you stressing. It is up to Rhodes and his staff to prepare the team. If they are hand picked why are there no high caliber top 40 players? Many of you have said you don't know the situations surrounding the players so to frankly state sit still and be quite until someone seeks to find out the story behind the players and stop speculating. And for those who believe they all come from poor dysfunctional homes. There are good black kids who have established goals for themselves and with the help of family, friends and or coaches are stepping out on faith to try and accomplish them in the end nothing happens by chance let God do as he will with these kids. Fear not, prepare and play hard. Hey I heard of all the schools getting players in and for the major city you have a nice pool of players for the rural city it not that easy but I guess that's fair too as long as you have the advantage. I don't doubt that at all, and hope I didn't come off as insinuating that because of their race or some other immutable characteristic, that they were assumed to be anything other than a well rounded person who came from a quality background.

 

I know nothing about any of the kid's situations, and it's personally none of my business. I hope they are getting a quality education and proper care, and if that's the case, then I'm satisfied.

None of us are scared that Cordia is gonna be a good team, they will be a very good team but what we're talking about is all the transfers Rhodes has coming in.

I saw on theroadtorupp.com that there are accusations of some local schools blocking paperwork on the Cordia kids. How does that work? Why are other schools involved?

 

Cordia is in Knott County. Knott County Central High School and Cordia are the 2 high schools in that county & both play in the 14th region. The two schools have the same Athletic Director. That AD helps coach baseball at Knott Central. Rumors are, that gentleman is the reason for the holdup on the paperwork as I believe he is the one that is required to submit it.

More in line with what I initially thought. I'd imagine that, in the instance of paperwork from the school the player is leaving, especially if they are a KHSAA member school, failure to turn in the paper work after a certain number of days would result in an implied waiver of any protest.

 

Could be wrong on that, but it makes sense from a policy standpoint. If you can't decide and put it in writing after say, 90 days, there's nothing there and you're just holding the kid out unnecessarily. Could be dead wrong on that though.

This may be off topic, but since Cordia is a public high school in Knott Co. - do these kids that live in dorms pay tuition? or are my KY tax dollars being sent to Knott Co to educate kids from out of state?

Cordia has a unique situation. They receive both public and private funding. The private funding comes from a foundation that is primarily controlled by the niece of the founder of the Cordia school.

 

Rest easy, I would imagine your tax dollars aren't being used to house rowdy out of state kids, though some of them may be allotted to educating them considering it would probably be hard to separate the funding for something like educational expenses given that the worthy in-state kids share classrooms with those scoundrels from out-of-state and those savage, aggressive, hell-raising Canadians. Glad you are concerned about pork spending on education though.

 

Also, you might want to look at the proportional amount of funding at the federal and local levels.

Yea... I don't think that's the case here (with scholarships... especially over the amount that the average student receives). Because of the area it's in, I'd imagine that Cordia's tuition is relatively cheap. Also, a reading of the school's mission statement, which has been constant throughout the school's history, is to provide a quality, low cost education to an area that needs the services.

 

Some of the links in the article mention Cordia being financially strapped as is, so I can't imagine them being a "for-profit" type of institution.

 

Maybe one of the posters more familiar with the 14th Region than I can elaborate more on the cost of tuition, housing, etc.

Then I would say you need to look and see where these posts are coming from in this thread. The majority, possibly the huge majority or posters on this board are from the NKY area. I myself am from the central KY area. What kind of team Cordia has or doesn't have pretty much has no affect on any of us what so ever. I guess I can't speak for everyone, but I think I can say with the utmost certainty that no one here is "afraid" of Cordia.

Somebody stated (in another thread on the subject) that Cordia has had 13 transfers since last year. Now, I can't speak to that, but if that's anywhere near a fact, then something seems amiss. They have a kid that evidently Cordia is his 4th KY high school. How in the world can that be? Or, maybe better put another way...how in the world can that be...and the kid be eligible to play?

 

All those of us who are questioning this want, is the situation looked in to. If it's all above board, then fine. If things aren't right, fix them. The situation begs to be looked into, and only Cordia has themselves to blame for it if/when it is, no matter the outcome.

To the underlined, it sounds like you are saying it's okay for schools in the larger cities in Kentucky to do something that isn't okay for schools in rural areas to do, which is a double standard.

Thanks FOTR. Now, with that said, I can't get on board with your opinion of having any and all out-of-state transfers not be eligible to play sports. I mean, families move all the time from anywhere and everywhere, and I would say the vast majority of moves, as far as school transfer purposes go, are above board and legit. Why penalize little Johnny who moved here from AZ because his dad got a new job at XYZ company? That I can't see.
