I mean, families move all the time from anywhere and everywhere, and I would say the vast majority of moves, as far as school transfer purposes go, are above board and legit. Why penalize little Johnny who moved here from AZ because his dad got a new job at XYZ company? That I can't see.

Spoke with someone back home who said one name was Oumar Keita. Here's a City League Hoops article with clip of Keita that mentions him moving to Kentucky and enrolling in Cordia. CityLeagueHoops have legit highlight videos of the top high school talent on YouTube, and it appears this was filmed at the John Lucas Camp. Pretty impressive skills, especially for a young kid with his size.

Not a case I was thinking of, but perfect example. I was in the Army, albeit 4 years and was stationed at the same post the whole time, never moved and didn't have kids. However, soldiers were moving to and from all the time, many with kids in school. There would be tons of military kids that wouldn't be eligible to play should they transfer in from another state if it was set up the way FOTR envisions. Heck, and that's just a small sampling.

 

Heck, Ft Knox and Ft. Campbell both might not have enough kids to even fill a team if "out of state" kids couldn't play.

 

And by the way, just an interesting fact. Ft. Knox and Ft. Campbell high schools are the ONLY 2 high schools in the country actually located ON military posts. Any where else, the kids go to whatever local high schools are around the posts. And I'm sure there are some kids even at Ft Knox and Ft. Campbell that go to other local area high schools, but I thought that was an interesting fact.

I probably didn't express it correctly. What I mean is that if a student isn't a bona fide citizen of Ky. they should not be eligible. NO problem at all with families moving into state and the kids being eligible immediately. Just a problem with kids who are not citizens of Ky. playing for ky teams.

Ask Indiana how going to a class system went for them.

Ok...more reasonable for sure, and this is where some of the transfers might start to get a little more "sticky". However, I still wouldn't personally throw a blanket over all the kids in a situation like this and just rule them ineligible as a whole, still would look at a case by case basis. And remember, ALL high school kids who transfer are initially considered ineligible by the KHSAA until paperwork is done and the KHSAA rules them eligible. I'm just not sure they do their due diligence all the time, which is why the situation at Cordis is occurring now. And, as far as where a kid is a "legal resident"...I'm not sure how this is looked at and how someone under the age of 18 who comes in from out of state goes about establishing legal residency.

I understand however, I would say if fear is not the issue then let's allow the power to be to do their jobs. I don't know or care how many transfers there are if the people directly involved aren't making noise why are we. A rule being skirted is that possible it's broken or not and that is why the KHSAA is in place. The discussions are nice but the lines crosses when thoughts are spoken as facts. When kids are degraded, assumptions and speculations as to their backgrounds, family life and or character are made. And my only concern is that these are Kids and there actions are based on the decisions of an adult(s). And is there a level to sin. In this case no rules have been deemed broken yet. But it very obvious that many are hoping. At this point all the kid are KY products and are attending a KY school why not embrace them or should they be fearful? I don't care if Cordia or any other school entire roster is transfers as long as they have satisfied the requirements and are approved who am I to question it. I think it's exciting for the area and the 14th districts the level of play will increase overall and the budget will benefit people support winners. The possibility of a small school in the mountains being a contender or even discussed as one is great. Good Luck to the kids at Cordia I hope they win it all..... WOW what would happen then?

Because if rules are being broken...and just on the surface it sure could be argued that they are...then the issue needs to be looked into and corrections made if need be. And actually Crossover...being a Cordia fan which it appears that you are...you and every other Cordia fan should RELISH having the program looked at if everything is above board. It vindicates you, the fan base and the program as a whole if it's found that everything is hunky dory, and it leaves little or even no room for argument.

Sticking one's head in the sand to possible problems is not the way to handle things, no matter the sport, no matter the school, no matter the problem. If the school I follow were or seemed to be doing some improprieties, I'd want it looked into and corrected as soon as possible before it got bigger and possibly even more of a problem.

 

You also rail on about the kids. Poor kids, leave the school alone, etc. Well, here's a fact. IF something is going on that shouldn't, and the kids were found ineligible and couldn't play ball...getting the kids to come to a school where they wouldn't be able to play...that, my friend is what would be the HUGE disservice to the kids. And if that is happening or has happened, well they (the school and adults involved) have not done the kid(s) any favors.

 

Hey, here's what I hope. I hope the KHSAA looks into this situation very thoroughly. I hope nothing illegal/against rules is going on. I hope all those boys have met all the requirements and are cleared to play ball and have a good time. Whatever happens after that, let the chips fall where they may on the court. But unless/until the first thing happens, there's gonna be a cloud over and a lot of speculation about this program.

1. Nope, don't work for the KHSAA, but since I follow high school sports definitely have an interest in what they do or don't do. I don't like them taking over middle school sports, but that's another topic.

 

2. Well, you kind of contradict yourself here in the second bolded quote. You say you're not crying about transfers, then seem to indicate Perry and Hazard have done some questionable things. Maybe they have, and if they have then they should be looked at. But don't divert, this thread is about Cordia.

4. Correct, this is high school, and thus has certain rules that are supposed to be followed. And it's not about being equal, that hasn't ever been mentioned on this thread. Little bitty X County school will probably never be equal to big Y city school. But they both have the same rules apply and it should be insured that they are following them.

So a kid living at a boarding school the vast majority of the year isn't a resident?

 

And yes, I think it's a double standard that some schools happen to have transfers from Kentucky while another school happens to have transfers from another state and nation, but people think it's all well and good for the team with in-state transfers but not for the school with out-of-state and international transfers. It seems ethnocentric to think that the kids from in-state are inherently more valuable than the kids who are out-of-state or international.

I have not contradicted myself I questioned why the concern on most forums centered around the Cordia program? It's not our job. Out of curiosity were you complaining about Perry county transfers or Knotts County????? or is that Coach Rhodes at Cordia got too many. Come on what are the real issues? My statement questioned if there are concerns express about these other school (any with transfers) or is the issue with Cordia and or Coach Rhodes. Yes, there is implications to race based on comments from others (not those on BGP). JUST SAYING!!!!!! Again I ask what is the real problem when no ruling have been made?

 

Since you have found the Cordia guilty as charged OOPS no charges....... Let's just let those who have been hired to do a job do it....... The comments and implications have made me a Cordia Fan upset. I feel that what is being done by those who have passed judgments without the information to do so is WRONG and WRONG in every sense of the word....
