Question: When is the "DEAD" period ?

Featured Replies

NOPE, NOPE, NOPE.

Those things would be illegal during that time. Kids are not even allowed on the school grounds for athletic purposes.

I don't think that is correct. Otherwise most schools would be in violation. As long as school coaching staffs are not invovled I think an athlete is allowed if he wants to show up and lift weights or shoot a basketball on his own recourse.

I guess I learned something new. I thought for sure most HS schools kept facilities open year round.

School facilities are supposed to be completely off limits during dead period.

This includes weight room and open gym.

I think it is good to have a dead period, but I don't think it is safe to have it so close to football season. lets let a kids sit at home in the AC for two and a half weeks and then start 2 a days in the heat. Not smart why dont we have it right when each school ends.

A few hours after crucifixion until resurrection. :D

I think I know the reason...here's a hint: :jump:

School all end at different times. Some end mid-May, some end-late May, some end early-June. With the alternate schedule, some don't end till mid-June.

I believe KHSAA wanted an uniform 2 weeks for the entire state.

Does Dead period effect AAU, Legion Baseball, or other non-school affiliated sports?

In one regards, yes.

They cannot use school equipment. Catcher's equipment, uniforms, etc. The school cannot provide transportation.

Techically, I do not believe they would be allowed to host practices or games on the school grounds. That last one, I am not 100% sure of, but believe the spirit of the rule would say no to being on school grounds.

No

What do you think about the post I made? You had said no, but I believe it would in the regards I mentioned.

I think that baseball and basketball really exploit AAU, and other leagues for their own uses, therefore creating a huge loophole in the idea behind dead period, this is why myself as well as other football coaches are irritated by the timing and use of the dead period.

I cannot disagree with this statement. Notice also that a lot of individual camps by colleges will be held at that time. The players will be encouraged to attend those camps.

You are correct, unless an agreement with entity exists and the same is than offered to ALL, not just limited to AAU but any private organization that requests.
