NOPE, NOPE, NOPE.

Those things would be illegal during that time. Kids are not even allowed on the school grounds for athletic purposes.

And cheerleaders aren't allowed to wear their uniforms in 4th of July parades either under a literal reading of the rule. How many times do you think the rule is violated that way every year in Ky?

This rule is for the protection of the kids. It is a great rule, IMVHO.

Every year parents can count on their children being free from ALL athletic requirements during this time. Fundraisers, weights, scrimmages or public events.

Kids that play multiple sports do not have much of a summer and the KHSAA has guaranteed at minimum they will have 2 weeks.

One of the BEST rules in the KHSAA books.

I understand your comment Leather and it seems to be overkill, but the kids should be FREE of ALL requirements for some period.

WOW LBBC and I agree :thumb:

Someone be sure and tell the basketball coaches this!

Well, it is supposed to drop a bunch of snow on KY tonight. ;)

They are told the rules every year. The kids need to know that the coaches CANNOT make them do anything during that time.

Whether the coaches chose to follow the rules or not, is a different story.

Don't get me wrong. I agree one hundred percent that it is a good thing particularly for those kids that play multiple sports. I was just pointing out something that most people, even those familiar with the dead period, don't realize.

I agree. Dead period means NOTHING. And NOTHING means NOTHING goes on.

Not permitted either. 3rd comment on individual camps is right on target!

you are exactly right ladiesballcoach. Nothing can happen during this time. No open gym or weights. All coaches should know this by now. KHSAA sends out reminders each year about this. New head coaches better be aware of this rule. The AD and principal better remind coaches and keep tabs on this rule.

All coaches and administrators should have their collective feet held to the fire where this rule is concerned. The kids get precious little time off as it is and any coach that takes this little away from them should be severely punished.
