Tea Party Near All Time Low Level of Support

Featured Replies

Support for the tea party is nearly as low as it's been since the movement's creation, according to a Gallup poll released Thursday.

Twenty-two percent of those polled consider themselves supporters of the tea party, while 27 percent of respondents say they oppose the movement. The remaining 51 percent say they're neither, or don't have an opinion. Those who say they "strongly oppose" the tea party also outnumber those who "strongly support" it, 17 percent to 11 percent.

Tea Party Poll Shows Support At Near Low Ebb

Will the current budget fiasco taking place in Washington be the end of the Tea Party? Are they taking this action because they are desperate to save the movement?

same exact thing could be said for Obamas approval rating of 43% per CBS news poll the past 48 hrs . " LOWEST EVER blah blah blah " Tea party isn't going away like you obviously wish it would.

No, I don't wish it would go away. I like having their voice in Congress and I like that the Tea Party movement has motivated more voters to get involved. I think what they are doing in Congress on this budget debate is ridiculous and it hurts the movement more than it helps. It looks like they are throwing a temper tantrum trying to get their way. I think this could backfire on them and push their approval ratings and public opinion of them even lower.

Those of us that are old enough to remember Newt's "Contract With America" and the concomitant threatened government shutdown remember how that went.

Most, if not all, of the "Contract With America" was put into place. Clinton then went along with some budget reforms, of which he received too much credit. He would have never signed such legislation without what happened at that time. Clinton also signed welfare reform during this time period.

In the next election the Republicans won two seats in the Senate and lost 5(?) seats in the House, not the bloodbath that is portrayed by liberal media.

I simply dont buy the argument that standing up for what you believe in is throwing a temper tantrum.

A majority of...

Americans are unhappy with Affordable Care Act

Americans think our Military should not be involved in Syria

Americans think current taxation is unfair

Americans want welfare reform

American want less Government intervention in their lives on a daily basis

Americans as a whole agree with these tenants of the Tea Party. Maybe the "Name" Tea Party doesn't resonate with American people due to the constant attempts to marginalize the Tea Party Movement, but what the Tea Party stands for seems to be in line with what most Americans are thinking.

Question for all: When do you see the Tea Party officially breaking away from mainstream Republicans?

You nailed it jumper -- Thanks . The name " tea party " gets a bad rap . Because the press has done a masterful job of demonizing the brand while most Americans think their ideas are very legitimate .

Hopefully never , they need each other .

FWIW I dont agree at all , NONE , that the R's that oppose the Tea Party are mainstream R's -- EXACTLY the opposite . It's the Tea Party wing that are mainstream R's . It's the Rhino's that refuse to fight for what most conservative americans believe in.

Some folks seem to think that "Republican" equals "Conservative".

What you said sounds like a logical reason to break away. Make the " lamestream" Repubs come to you.

I think it should . Thats the gripe . The R party is falling farther and farther away from traditional conservative values . If another party comes along that better matches my conservative views I'll give them a look . But the country is rapidly , VERY rapidly becoming more and more liberal . That doesnt scare me , it saddens me greatly.
