I simply dont buy the argument that standing up for what you believe in is throwing a temper tantrum.

 

Nor is representing what your voters asked you to represent which is what they are doing. I believe almost nothing of what I read in the media headlines these days. I learn MUCH more in our lively discussions on BGP!!

 

The media and some liberals want to demonize some conservatives because they will not bend to their wishes (when the liberals have no intention of compromising themselves), but these conservatives are doing what they were voted in to do.

 

It is ironic that Bill Clinton WON the 1992 election by capitalizing on the "read my lips" quote of George Bush who later COMPROMISED and allowed a tax increase. I am willing to bet if the conservatives DO yield, the liberals will use it against them in the next campaign.

Polls can say whatever an operative wants them to say. Interesting timing on this one. It looks like the last polling on this subject was over a year ago.

 

And the apparent SLIGHT change from over a year ago is leveraged by HuffPost.

 

HuffPost is an operative outlet and they are in smear mode of the Tea Party and Cruz. Of course - so is McCain and other RINOs.

 

It seems the lines are being drawn between old timers of both parties and the younger generation of lawmakers.

Will the current budget fiasco taking place in Washington be the end of the Tea Party? Are they taking this action because they are desperate to save the movement?

 

I don't believe so, unless the government shutdown/debt ceiling threats end up in disaster and the popularity/electability of those responsible suffers irreparably. Until then, there doesn't seem to be much, if any pressure from Republican voters against the tea party types. If anything, traditional Republicans/conservatives in office have become squeamish out of fear of primary challengers.

 

The Republican party is amid an internal debate between its two factions and it appears the tea party faction is calling the shots. There also seems to be a mild rift among the tea party faction itself, especially considering its standard-bearers are 2016 hopefuls. I don't think it's a debate that will be resolved until elections in 2014 and 2016 sort it out. And barring huge losses in either of those at the hands of the tea party, I don't think they are going anywhere, even if they are only popular with a minority of voters. The composition of a lot of Republican held districts more or less ensures that in the meantime.

I find it ironic libertarian republicans are being painted a crazy by the media . They have wanted more socially moderate republicans and that is what they are getting. But people won't be happy I guess until we give up our fiscal conservative principals. That isn't going to happen .
