I know it is not centerfield. He gets a very poor jump on the ball, does not have great speed, and as poor an arm as there is in centerfield in Major League Baseball.

Huh? He's got one of the best arms in the game. His best position is RF.

I think with Ludwick having a year left and everyone cheering for Hamilton in Center next year, that if that is the way things happen, you all might be singing a different tune come next year. Just my honest opinion.

If Choo bolts, I can see Hamilton platooning in left initially. That way he could still be used as PR in late innings. Which means Walt may have to trade for a defensive fill-in to play center.

In my perfect world (with Yankee type money) i trade Ludwick and Frazier, Get a power bat at third (David Wright?) and then resign Choo to play left field next to Hamilton. I can dream right? :idunno:

We'll find out in spring training if he can. I don't know if his defense has improved enough to just hand him the position. Which is why a platoon with Ludwick in left may make more sense, at least early in the season. Do not underestimate the importance of having Hamilton available to pinch-run late in the game. (Think back to game one of both the recent series vs. Cards and Bucs.)

Agree completely. Which is why, and I understand why they did it, the Votto and Phillips signings are going to cripple the Reds for the foreseeable future.

 

They could've traded Votto for 3-4 high-end prospects, had money to address multiple positions, and still fielded a very competitive team.

Hamilton is already better in CF than Choo. Fielding isn't gonna be the issue.
