Then how does Glasgow stay in the Top 10, let alone at #5?

 

Glasgow is 4-1 but their 4 wins are against teams that are a combined 6-13 and lacking a single winning record in the lot. Somerset was the first quality team they played and they got beat soundly.

 

If Somerset is punished for losing against good teams and beating a bad team, then shouldn't Glasgow be punished for beating bad teams and losing to the only good team?

 

I can buy the argument that a team has to win their way back in...that's fine... but it makes no sense when 4 days ago one team cruises to a victory in pretty dominating fashion and are essentially regarded as a "lesser" team to the squad they just handled. Had Somerset defeated Ballard Memorial instead of Glasgow and the Bombers were then not ranked in edition to the Jumpers, and Glasgow suffered a loss to Bardstown by 3 TD's, then there is no argument.. but at some point wins/losses and who beat who has to be thrown out the window when there is a head to head matchup to look at and see the clear picture.

I think you are making good points. Glasgow may be overrated. Somerset may be underrated. The result of one game will not change rankings dramatically. Just like Somerset did not drop out of the top 10 after those early losses. But one game will shift viewpoints. Glasgow dropped two spots following the Somerset loss. They aren't going to drop from #3 out of the top 10 because of one loss to a good team. I think rankings are an evolutionary process where each game pushes a team in a direction. Glasgow has another tough opponent this week and they need to bounce back with a good performance or their ranking will drop. Somerset needs to beat another decent opponent this week to build on the Glasgow win and get back into the top 10. What happens for both of them this week will have a big impact on where they are ranked next week.

I'm partial to the situation, but Glasgow is/was not overated. Somerset got healthy last week in time for the game. Glasgow had some injuries on the line that Somerset exposed. A healthy Somerset should be in the top 5. A healthier Glasgow will bounce back this week in a big way against a talented, but young Monroe County. I think there is too much emphasis placed on margin of victory in high school football...particularly without seeing the games in person.

I am cool with Caldwell at #1. But I do not think the gap is all that much. Could teams 2-9 be put in any order and realistically make a case for all those teams in any of those slots? I believe so.

Put NCC where ever you want I don't think it matters. I wonder where they were this time last year? I'm sure it wasn't #1! I said early on Caldwell will be a tough beat for anyone this year.

Maybe Somerset has turned a corner, maybe they haven't we'll see how it plays out. Same can be said for NCC.

But I wouldn't bet against me enjoying some Larossa's Pizza with Lawnboy the day after Thanksgiving prior to kick off of the State Semi-Finals between Somerset and Newport Central Catholic (another school that some have written off) in Newport.

 

For everyone bashing Southwestern the 0-5 school that Somerset beat, look at a few of their losses.

 

14-0 to Corbin (5-0) a game that was scoreless until the middle of the third.

31-28 in OT to Knox Central (3-2)

38-27 to Belfry (5-0) a game in which they were in until the very in and played well enough to win

42-20 to Wayne (5-0) a game that was a one score game in the second half

 

SW 5 opponents including Somerset are 20 and 5....not to shabby of a group to go 0-5 against when your starting QB transfers to Russell Co over the summer.

I won't be surprised at all.

Who has Newport Central Catholic beaten to stay in the rankings at 1-4? An Ashland team that has a 1 point win over 1A Raceland, a 1 point win over Russell and a win over a 2-2 Ironton, Ohio team that is ranked 338th in Ohio? If they are getting the benefit of the doubt because of a tough schedule why not the Jumpers?

I understand your argument, but the Ashland win over Raceland was one of the best high school football games I have ever watched, and if you think Ashland doesn't deserve some credit for that game I don't who does. I pray to God and all things righteous that Raceland plays as good in the playoffs as they did against Ashland, if they do watch out.

Murray should definitely still be a Top 10 team. No way Ballard gets in over them, even though Ballard is a decent team, just haven't played anyone worth 2 cents. Murray is at least 2-3 TDs better than them.

Ballard Memorial will be down 6 scores in the 2nd quarter. Caldwell's homecoming queen will be in the game by the 4th.
