He doesnt coach here in Kentucky any more but, Roger Morris, coach at Lee Co. Va definantly ranks among the top coaches around.

Where does Gene Combs on Lee fit on this list?? I saw his name mentioned a lot on the 14th region list.

Coaches at Lee Co. Small scool of 300 students who has won 2 regional titles in past 6 years. If he didn't just like where he is you would probably see him at a much larger quality baseball program. I think beattyville is his hometown.

I think he has to be mentioned as one of the top coaches because of what he has done. He really coaches his kids well and gets the most out of his kids of anyone that I can think of. Very good coach!

That's strong...

When I was in high school, besides playing against teams with players I personally knew, I always wanted to beat the teams with the "superstar" players, or the teams at the top of the rankings more than anything. Although they were always a perenial regional championship team, I always wanted to beat Harrison County more than any other team, because of their coach. I didn't know Mr. Whitaker personally, but frankly I didn't like the man because of what he showed on the field every time I saw or played against Harrison County. With that being said, you can't argue against what the man has accomplished, and I can't help but respect the records Whitaker has set. Although he has been mentioned earlier, IMO he has to be at least top 3 in the state, if not number one.

Those are some unbelievable stats! Especially to be done at a county school like the one in Cynthiana.

Outstanding accomplishments and are the 18 Regional titles a KY High School record.

Doesn't say much for the competition if you ask me. If a team is winning it that often, then the other teams can't play very well year-in and year-out. Like Paintsville used to be here in the 15th. In the late 70's through the 80's, they won it about every year. But they really had no competition. J. Central on occasion. Pikeville on occasion. But not very often. Now that other schools have built fields and hired quality coaches, it's about evened out.

The 10th region plays great baseball...GRC, Montgomery, Brossart, Bourbon County, Nicholas County, Campbell County, Pendleton County, Mason County

Billy K. Anderson, Nicholas Co. (579) wins - 12th all-time

Larry Conrad, Bourbon Co. (519) wins - 17th all-time

 

I would say there is some good competition in the 10th every year.

Nicholas had a good run a couple years ago and went to the final four. Bourbon County was never a great threat to win anything. Sure...on occasion, some of those teams are going to be good. But year in and year out, not so.

I personally think the 10th is one of the strongest regions in the state from top to bottom.

Coach Garmon and Coach Ledington do a very good job at Corbin.

Harrison County is a team known to play a lot of games against top notch teams outside of their region. Coach W likes to play the Lexington and Louisville schools and Harrison County is home to one of the best baseball tournaments in the state, the McDonald's classic. I think another thing that makes Mac a great coach is by playing the best out of state. When Harrison County goes on spring break to play in Florida they play some of the best from Florida, not other Kentucky schools. But I could be wrong and it just could be 25 years of weak competition...
