September 17, 201313 yr Steelers suck. Worst team they've fielded back to before the Kordell years. The phantom trip and fumble by the TE are plays they aren't talented enough to overcome. They have some people out, sure, but even with Heath Miller back and the rookie RB, their issues are deep. Ben's pick was a horrendous throw, and he had time. He's more accurate when you have people draped all over him and he's running for his life. As for the Bengals, I think they're very average, but in this division, that should win it.
September 17, 201313 yr I'm sorry, but how can anyone say that Dalton didn't look bad. The second half #s were skewed by the passes that he was throwing. Screens to Gresham and dump off that Bernard went supersonic on. He also tried to hit AJ down the sideline and threw it 10 yards out of bounds, not to mention missing Eifert almost every time. Even the deep ball Eifert had to wait on. This is who he is. I don't like it in the playoffs w/out a solid running game.
September 17, 201313 yr Dalton looked horrible and the only thing that over-shadowed it was the fact that the Steelers looked worse.
September 17, 201313 yr I think people forget Peyton doesn't have the biggest arm in the league and he does just fine. It's because Peyton has something Dalton doesn't have and that is accuracy.
September 17, 201313 yr Author What worries me most (besides Dalton) is the poor play of the secondary. Leon Hall has not looked good at all and when you have to replace their #1 pick last year, Dre, with an aging CB in Pac Man, things aren't looking good. Anyone want an over under for Aaron Rodgers next week? the over under for Rodgers is 300 yards passing, I predict over. Leon Hall I admit has definitely struggled early in the year. However overall last night the secondary had pretty good coverage, but there were a few plays where they did get beat bad. The Steelers only had 130 yards passing midway through the 4th quarter, however they definitely need to cut down on the big play which they have seemed to give up a lot in two games.
September 17, 201313 yr Author It's because Peyton has something Dalton doesn't have and that is accuracy. Well actually Dalton is basically right where Peyton was in terms of accuracy in their first three years. Dalton is know Peyton but I did want to point that out haha.
September 17, 201313 yr Don't remember who it was that said it, but considering where the Steelers are right now, one analyst basically said of last night "a good team wins the game against the Steelers (which the Bengals did), but a great team blows them out". I still think the Bengals have all the right pieces individually...but, ultimately it's a matter of putting them together that will determine just how good of a team they will have this year.

Even though the Steelers definitely are very weak on offense, they do still have a very good defense. I don't see many teams just blowing them out, but we will see because they play basically the same good teams as the Bengals.
September 17, 201313 yr Don't strain your shoulder too much patting yourself on the back. His arm strength is fine. I believe it was Bill Polian this past week on the radio that said Dalton's arm strength was comparable to Peyton Manning's. He misses throws because he has to put extra on an easy throw for most QB's in the league.
September 17, 201313 yr He misses throws because he has to put extra on an easy throw for most QB's in the league. No he doesn't. He misses throws because his accuracy isn't the greatest. I'll trust Bill Polian over you.

I don't see many teams just blowing them out, but we will see because they play basically the same good teams as the Bengals. I think the point they were trying to make, was the fact that on many of the misses that Dalton had in the first half, it was to open (and sometimes wide open) receivers. You make those completions and keep moving the chains...it's not a 10-10 game at halftime. You basically win the game in the first half, instead of having to battle it out in the 2nd.
September 17, 201313 yr Quarterback Ball Velocity at NFL Combine 2008-2013 | Ourlads' NFL Football & Scouting Blog Ourlads’ Guide to the NFL Draft is the only source that gives the number for the quarterback’s velocity at the NFL Combine. YEAR 2008: Paul Smith, Tulsa 57 Joe Flacco, Delaware 55 You really need to let this arm strength thing go. He doesn't have the best arm in the league that's for sure but it's not why he was missing throws all over the place last night.
September 17, 201313 yr No he doesn't. He misses throws because his accuracy isn't the greatest. I'll trust Bill Polian over you. So he lost his accuracy after College? He fit Parcells' system of starting and winning enough games with a completion percentage above 60 in college. I'll trust his completion percentage requirements for college players over yours.

Do you know if anyone measures how far a guy can throw?
September 17, 201313 yr You really need to let this arm strength thing go. He doesn't have the best arm in the league that's for sure but it's not why he was missing throws all over the place last night. No doubt. The constant bashing of his arm strength takes away any credibility that his criticisms may have.
