Under The Radar: Underrated Programs Coming Into The Year

Featured Replies

Let's hear them.

Let's please keep this discussion on teams that are underrated and refrain from comments about teams we might think are overrated, please.

Whose played better than expected so far in this young year?

I'm gonna put Belfry on this list. I think the folks of the Pond Creek Nation had an idea of how good they could be this year, but might have been too smart and/or humble to let on to what they had. Any others?

To me, Collins is another team whose performed pretty well considering.

I don't consider Collins an underdog after last season, heck since their inception. They will, more then likely, be a yearly contending team.

Lewis County is 3-0. I don't think they are going to contend for a State Championship, but defiantly under the radar for most people.

True. I just didn't expect the win over Ballard and such a close loss to 6A Simon Kenton in a three week span.

Fair to say that Corbin might have been a bit underrated coming into the year, especially considering Southwestern's close loss to Belfry.

Collins has three D1 Commits and may have another one or two. I guess they may have been under the radar for some, but they returned a lot.

Definitely didn't know that. Who are the three commits?

South Warren is a shocker, no points scored against them so far.

Agree with South Warren. Don't agree with Collins. They were in the 4A Finals last season.

I think (someone will have to confirm):

DeAndre Farris, WR

Masai Whyte, LB

Blanton Creque, K/P

South Warren is a bit of a surprise only in terms of just how dominating they've been. Around here we knew they'd be good - very good. I had told some people (and may have even posted it on here) that if they could get by Warren East they had a strong chance of going undefeated. Now the scoreless streak? No, that was out of left field. And I went from thinking they had a strong chance of winning their region to thinking that they might now have a real, honest to goodness shot at winning the whole thing. Before the year I considered Central in the semis their limit. Now I don't think so......

BTW, I think there's no team that was more underrated in the state than DeSales. Find me the predictions that they'd be as good as they've been. They were ranked at the bottom of the top 10, but now are considered legitimate threats in that class to win it all.

Top of the list IMO - DeSales. Nobody even gave them a thought and they are looking down right dominating.

Addendum: Great minds think a like. My post was a minute too late to be first in on DeSales.
