Eli Manning...I don't get it

Featured Replies

No one is trying to defend the season Eli or the Giants are having. He stinks and they stink...right now. To extrapolate his performance over the last five games and use that to define his career is ridiculous. He led two teams to championships- if we are going to judge him, then judge the whole career.

HB makes a great point about watching the games- Eli is not the worst thing about the Giants. He is the single reason why they have been in any game they have been in this season. His WRs drop passes and stop on routes regularly. He has little time to throw because his line is not very strong- of course they are not strong run blockers either, so he has no run game to take pressure off or set up play action.

It is a tough year- of course, they are only two games out of first. :D

Eli's not even good now? :lol2: He's been sacked once every 14 times he drops back this year. He's been hit much more than that. His offensive line stinks.

I would expect you to know that since you make al your judgments on stats alone. I mean its obvious you don't actually watch the games.

While I know the Giants as a whole aren't good part of the sack ratio is on Eli. Peyton has lost his starting center before the first game and the best offensive tackle in the league in game 3 and he doesn't take sacks like that.

Do you watch the games? What's eli supposed to do? He's constantly getting pressured.

I'm not going to say he's playing good. He isn't. I think he's trying to do too much. Unfortunately he has to try that with no running game and no blocking.

Since you mentioned injuries, Eli has lost his starting RT, C and RG by the way. He's also lost one running back (Andre Brown) and likely another (David Wilson). Not that it matters since they have barely rushed over 50 yards in a game. Peyton Manning wouldn't look good in the Giants offense right now.

Yeah, I watch games. Peyton reads defenses and gets rid of the ball MUCH quicker than Eli this season and every season. He's also more accurate and throws less interceptions. A good share of this season falls on Eli.

You obviously don't watch the Giants if you lay a good share of the blame for this season on Eli.

I've shown you numbers regarding his sacks.

Several of his interceptions have been flukes or right off of WR's hands.

He has zero run game support.

He's constantly under pressure.

His WR's have dropped several passes.

I already said he's not really been good. But if he has an average line and an average running game the Giants aren't 0-5 right now. Both are well below average right now.

He does have 2 Super Bowls...you know that right?

I believe you are talking about the Tyree catch (and conveniently forgetting Eli made an incredible play to avoid a sack).

Neither Tyree or Burress were on his SECOND championship team.

I was thinking it was Burress that made the catch.....You wouldn't believe it but I honestly thought he just had 1 super bowl.....

He has two. And two Super Bowl MVP trophies. Both wins over the amazing Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. One over the amazing 18-0 Patriots.

And some people say he's not good. Come on...

The Tyree play still makes no sense. Dude is tackled, gets spun around, closes his eyes and throws a Hail Mary in to triple coverage where the ball lodges in to the face mask of Tyree falling backwards in the air. Tyree goes on to write a book about it. Craziness. Makes you believe in a football God.

I know I'm being picky but it didn't lodge in his facemask. He pinned it against the back of his own helmet and held on.

For those saying Vick can't throw, you obviously haven't watched him play that much. Dudes got a legit cannon. I know people nit pick his accuracy but he is actually pretty good. His breakout year in Phili a few seasons ago he was hitting throws not too many QB's could have made, he was throwing lasers all over the field until he got hurt. A couple games I watched that year he was hitting throws that had zero room for error, throwing in tight windows in double, triple coverage. Far from someone who "just can run".

When we say he can't throw, we are talking about his accuracy. Never questioned his arm.

2 good games doesn't equate to a great QB. He doesn't have 2, the Giants have 2. Too many people tend to give the QB all the credit for SB wins when it couldn't be further than the truth.

Yes, you are being picky. :D Even more remarkable though.

The Giants do not have those two Superbowl wins without Eli either- that works both ways, no?

Yep and the Ravens don't have thier first SB without Trent Dilfer and Bucs don't have theirs without Johnson. Doesn't mean they were great QB's

The Giants don't win either game without him. They wouldn't have made the playoffs in 2011 without him.

You like to dismiss all his successes as being part of a team and then say all his failures are on him and have nothing to do with the team. Eli has been below average this year. Doesn't change the fact that he's been one of the best in the NFL over the past few years. By one of the best I mean around top 5.
