I thought it was nice that he KY post had a couple of photos in there of the tournament. Not much of a summary but better than most years.

Interestingly enough, the last team not to win the freshman regional ended up winning the 9th as seniors.

 

Freshman basketball is fun and great to watch, but it is not an accurate indicator of things to come. Like cshs mentioned, there are far too many variables involved. Most importantly, freshman playing JV and/or Varsity.

 

Great point. A freshman who played up in that class may have had an impact on the freshman tournament. I think his name began with an N.... :confused: Neistheide maybe, how'd he turn out?

You're going to have let this one go. If HC had Giwa playing down, he would bring a lot to their team. CovCath also has a freshman not playing on that level, and he'd bring a lot to their team. Boone and Conner also have kids "playing up" that would help their squads.

In '04, Todd Jacobs & Kurt Bovard both started on the frosh level, and moved up to the JV squad around Christmas time.

 

I think Maile did the same this year as well.

When I was a freshman in 1998 we made it to the semi-finals vs Highlands. We lost in a close one but in that tournament something happened. Boone County had a decent freshman team that year, but they had 2 players dressing JV and one of them playing alot of varsity time. Robbie Flick and Scottie Beimiesh were both brought down during the freshman tourny. They hadn't played hardly any, if at all, for the freshman team that year. They went on to win the tournament.

In I guess what would be an upset, Ryle beat CCH tonight by about 7. CCH went up 18-10 but Ryle made a nice run to cut it to 2 at the half. CCH got a quick start in the 3rd but Ryle tied it up. Helmer hit a big 3 for Ryle and then hit some FTs as well.

 

Alan Mullins coached a nice game. Russell was a problem for CCH. #32 (forgot his name) shot well. Helmer shot well. Lamping made some nice high-low feeds to Russell. I was impressed with Ryle's athletic ability at all positions.

I did not give them much of a chance to win the region and they proved me dead wrong. They really earned their title by defeating Boone, Dixie, Holy Cross and CovCath!

Congrats to the Ryle frosh. You earned a victory with a great team effort. Both teams played hard and it was a very good game to watch. Stover creates and uses his body very well and I thought he was CovCath's best player. This is Ryle's first frosh regional championship. I can't spell our #32's name, the very fine young man from Japan, but his 7 points in a row in the second half were huge. CovCath does a fantastic job of running the frosh regional tourney. THANKS from all of the 9th region fans.
