What does John Hardin's loss say about 5A football?

Featured Replies

I think it says 5A is one weak class overall.

Additionally, what does it say about Bowling Green? In other words, John Hardin has been Bowling Green's other quality win in addition to those "sub par X teams" so again what does the loss say about BG?

This topic has gotten me in trouble with some 5A fans already, but let me sum it up by saying this: BG, Conner, and pray for rain.....

And even as a Conner alum and supporter I can say it's still way too early to know how their season will go.

This Friday should give us a better indication.

Don't flatter Conner by trying to shoehorn them in there. They may be the best of a bad lot, but should they be lucky enough to make it, they'll get crushed like all the others in 5A.

5A is now and has been since the departure of Highlands and the eastern powers a weak class. It has enjoyed a few strong teams at the top with a dominant head in Bowling Green, and then quickly evaporated into a weak lot. Every class is this way with some variance, but in all, 5A is probably comparatively in the bottom cut of the classes.

As for what does it say about BG, I've quickly grown weary of trying to take up that fight for our crosstown rivals. Think I'll let someone else argue the merits for a while. All I'll say is if you believe John Hardin this year is the equivalent of John Hardin the past two years, there's nothing I can do to convince you. Because it's simply not true.

I'll say it again. 5A is just like every other class. They have one really good team and all the others are a couple steps behind. Just like 6A, just like 4A and 3A etc.

Not sure what the fixation with 5A is especially when most 5A teams have beaten 6A schools so far in the season once again.

Btw. I looked at all the classes and 5A has the 2nd most undefeated teams. 1 less undefeated team behind 6A.

Just sayin.

Isn't that what I said in the other thread and you yelled at me? :sssh:

I agree on Conner not being in BG's class, but they have a stud at QB and are probably the best of the rest.

That may be very impressive, but without looking at schedules, I have no idea. I know LexCath is 0-2 and are probably a Top 25 team in the state. Too early for records to mean much.

However, I get your point; I'm certainly guilty of painting with a broad brush (tongue somewhat planted in cheek; somewhat).

Sure that was me?

My only response to you was that things change. You referenced that when LexCath, Highlands, and CovCath were in the class with BG in the mid-2000s that they didn't win anything and then once they were gone they did. I pointed out that Bowling Green has played one of them (LexCath) in the last three years and has yet to lose. In fact they've not even been less than 2 TD margins and most recently pummeled them by 28. My defense was of Bowling Green as a program that has improved, albeit poorly timed to prove it in the way some want them to. I firmly believe no one will be satisfied that Bowling Green is changed until they play Highlands. Even though they're quick to point out the LexCath loss as evidence while ignoring the more recent results.

None of that was an endorsement of 5A as a whole. I believe the top has been fine although this year is a step back for everything beyond #1. But once you get down into the bottom half of the top 10 and especially past the top 10, it really drops off. This is true of most of the classes.

Bowling Green hasn't played John Hardin in 2013. The calendar is calling you. It wants 2012 back.

Did you get permission from sweeperboy or tdyballgame to use this???? :lol2:

The above tells us nothing in regards to this argument.

Am I supposed to sing to the rooftops that my Cougars "beat a 6A team?"

I think with a BG win against Lou St X this Friday, it should answer this thread imo.

It will be simple, its BG and then two days and a Sunday dinnner later, there's the rest in 5A...Just sayin

And yes PP, I do believe BG will beat St X Friday:thumb:

You missed the point Clyde.

I was pointing out that 5A is really not much different than any other class. This topic has basically came up twice in the past week and I was pointing out that not only does 5A have more undefeated teams than any other class except for 6A but that most of the classes have 1 or 2 really good teams in their respected class and the majority of the rest are a drop off.

To claim class 5A is really a bad class shows me that the people saying this are ignoring it is pretty similar to other classes in that other classes seem to have 1 team with multiple championships and the others in the class have nothing to brag about.

Some keep saying CCH is a top team, yet they haven't won anything in the last 6 years or so etc.

5A is no different than any other class.

You missed the point Clyde.

.

But you were making your point by pointing out the number of 6A undefeated teams. My point is that's immaterial especially 2 weeks into the season. It tells us nothing.

To be fair to 5A most classes, if not all, lack quality in depth.

1A is bad with two maybe 3 good teams in a year.

2A is OK but still dominated by 1 team.

Not smart enough to discuss 3A.

4A - A few quality teams dominated by one stud program

5A - Similar to 4A but maybe less depth.

6A - 1 great program, 2 strong programs, and bunch of decent after that.

No one owns the title of weakest.
