August 19, 201313 yr Let's have some common sense. Just because a profane gesture is legal, it doesn't mean it's OK to do it in certain situations without any repercussions.

Not that I would do it or ever will it just seems like if you did flip an officer the bird then what happens happens, maybe? And my question has nothing to do with the thread. August 19, 201313 yr True story from a month ago. As I was on my way home, roughly 2 miles from the state line, in a well known speed trap, I was going my typical 75 in 70 when I came over the rise and there he sat outside his cruiser shooting radar at oncoming traffic. Then out of my rearview I see a new corvette airmail me and he flies the bird at the cop while in the fast lane as he passed. Probably running 130ish as he passed. To the cops credit, he never fliched, just kept shooting the cars he thought he had a shot at.

But if its not against the law then cops have no legal rights for repruccisions. For the record this guy is a firefighter who is apparently friends with the police chief. Just doesn't seem logical he would flip the cops off.

But cops can always find a reason to arrest a jerk , even if charges dropped later. But no real law I know it directly breaks.

August 20, 201313 yr Not saying this is the reason he was stopped but it is against the law to run a stop sign on a bike. I've been ticketed for it. Even so, it sounds like they may have some pre-existing beef we are unaware of.

Again, just because a profane gesture is legal, in a moral sense it doesn't make it right. If I'm sitting on my porch and a guy walks by every day, stops and yells profanity at me every day, I'm calling the cops and I'm sure they will ask the guy to cease. If he does not cease, I'm sure there is something that could be done legally to assist him to cease. I know this is an apples/oranges comparison, just trying to make a point.........I think.

We agree on "apples/oranges." Your example COULD lead to harassment charges. Silently flipping the bird at an officer, while not very nice and considered "profane", is NOT illegal. How could it be?
