Most complaints are handled by IA and in larger agencies everyone is equipped with cameras/body mic's. These squash 99% of complaints. Not to mention most complaints are unfounded and when confronted with the video/audio proof, people start singing different tunes. IA's usually handle minor complaints, and if it becomes formal, City or County commissioners then get involved. If there's an actual serious violation of rights, KSP or others can and will get involved. Trust me, KSP has no problem arresting another cop. Including other troopers.

I'm not disagreeing with you or saying your wrong. My suggestion was based soley on public perception. Perception is reality for a lot of people. When you have people investigating themselves and finding co-workers innocent it doesn't sit well with some poeple. A lot of time our minority population looks at is as the good ol boy network. I personally never saw any police corruption in my life until I moved out of the state. I know in the state of KY its not a major issue, but just to help with perception of the job, I don't think it's a crazy suggestion.
August 21, 201313 yr Based on the original news story it sounded like an over reaction. Now we know the police say he did not stop at a stop sign. He attempted to call someone on his cell phone and made a quick movement with his arm that made the officer think he was possibly going to hit him. The officer was well within his rights to stop him if he ran the stop sign and well within his rights to have his taser ready if he thought the guy was going to fight him. If true, I agree that they did nothing wrong.

August 21, 201313 yr Who's gonna pay for it? Seriously insurance carrier for the department or city/county government may see the benefit for liability and pick up the tab. One lost case of officer abuse where video would have cleared the officers actions would probably pay for these for the entire department.
