Quarterback Controversy. I'm starting it now.

Featured Replies

The crop of new age QBs has warped your mind. Dalton may not be perfect but he has the third highest TD total after two seasons. Let's just be happy that we have a serious athlete as a backup. That's pretty significant for an already solid roster.

By the same token let's not get too excited over Dalton's numbers. They are skewed by the current rules promoting passing in the NFL. I think he'll get consistently buried by Luck and others that get to play by those rules. He's certainly not the 3rd best quarterback after 2 seasons that I can remember, not even in the last 5 years.

He also didn't look comfortable in the pocket at all, hurried throws under pressure, and missed some wide open guys on easy check downs.

Sounds like you are describing Dalton to a Tee last night.

It's always a bad thing when your 2nd and 3rd string QB's look better than your starter.

I liked Skelton myself.

You can make excuses for Dalton all you want with things like "He didn't have AJ blah blah blah" Well don't forget that the other 2 QB's had even worse players out there for them yet the other 2 QB's performed better. Skelton only had 1 incomplete pass in his short time out there and still had a nice TD throw.

Dalton 3 for 7 0 TD

Johnson 9 for 16 1 TD

Skelton 4 for 5 1 TD

By the way, Dalton who had more pass attempts than Skelton still ended up with almost half the yards than Skelton had.

:lol2: People are wanting to replace the starting QB after the first preseason game? I guess I now know who to ignore when they try to talk football.

Josh Johnson brings more to the table,

more versatility, stronger arm.

Can he make decisions and manage a game?

I say he has more upside than Andy Dalton and

gives the Bengals a better chance of winning and

making a playoff run.

Thoughts?

Although not ready to make a change to Johnson after 1 PS game, I'm in favor of facing the reality that Dalton is not the guy to lead this team and it's time to think about a future QB, not the current caretaker. Hopefully they don't end up with Manziel.....

Another case and example Hellbird of what I was talking about, and hence that comparison I made with Brees early in his career.

Why are you replying to me when quoting someone else's post?

Your infatuation with me is becoming a bit uncomfortable.

If you are going to reply to me, try quoting my post such as the last one I made in this thread of you describing JJ although it was a perfect description of Dalton last night.

It was only fitting to include you. Since you had made one of your classic false statements and saying how no one has saidsstuff like that about Andy. Then sure enough someone else does say it. So it fit the moment perfectly. Just like with how the news today was talking about how hard the Bengals are after geno. When you just complained about that. Things you say just keep end up being wrong.

The backups did play with backups but also went against backup. You even mentioned the penalties on the line. Let's not forget how he had third and longs to deal with it both possessions. Which almost made both.perfect throw to Ryan who slipped on his break. Then Bernard slips or else he picks up first down too. He did make a horrible throw on an deep out though. Penalties hurt their chances completely though. The backups did play good though. But once again it's the pre season.

Yes it is preseason. But preseason or not it's always funny how backups look better than a guy who you have compared to Tom Brady and Drew Bree's. When exactly is this god like QB actually supposed to look good?

Show me where I said the Bengals don't want Geno. Quit making up lies you look stupid.

I said they have to stop sitting on their hands and sign him now because it will only cost them more the longer they wait.

You really are reaching.

If Dalton isn't the long term answer and he may not be I don't think the answer is on the roster.

I feel like I'm back in Philly again with Bengals fans ready to have Daulton tied to a horse and run out of town after 2 series in a preseason game. Is Daulton as good as (or will he ever be as good as) Manning, Brees, Brady or Rogers?? No way. But typically, there are only 3-5 elite type QB's in the NFL. I see Daulton in the upper part of the second tier, or lower part of the top tier QB's. Considering guys like Brad Johnson, Doug Williams, Trent Dilfer and Mark Rypien have won Super Bowls, the Bengals will be ok with Daulton, especially with their defense. I don't think this is a make or break year, and unless he is just absolutely terrible, he'll be the QB next year. The Bengals won't be in a position to draft a starter next year, so like it or not he's your guy. The Bengals are in much better shape than most of the NFL at the position than most teams, but if you think Johnson or Skelton are potential starters in this league, I have to say you're not thinking clearly ;-).

Not reaching at all, I have said many times how if they get Geno signed this off season then they basically played this off season perfectly. Then you like to go on your rant about free agents, and how they don't have Geno signed and how that proves your point. When I kept even saying its not next off season yet, and sure enough we hear now how the Bengals are really trying hard to get this deal done. Hmmm who has been saying thats why they didn't sign these high price free agents you wanted, and now its showing. Hmmm.

I am just using your stats man that you wanted to use to say Oneal was better than Leon Hall. I mean what its ok for you to use stats to try to act like what your saying is right. However when I show you stats that show Dalton to be right there with them in there first few years it doesn't count? But hey whatever makes you feel better man.
