Trinity #2 in USA Today Preseason Top 25

Featured Replies

So much for Trinity flying under the radar. USA Today has them ranked number 2 in the country. This is more than most Shamrock backers expected. Bob Beatty and company will remain focused on Highlands, then Ensworth, and so on. This team has a relatively small senior class (20-22) and will rely heavily on the sophomores and juniors. When the lights are on, how quickly these young people grow together as a team will dictate success on the field.

This makes me question the little credibility USA Today has ranking high school teams.

Why do they always go off what a team has done the past 2 seasons? I know that it drums interest, but how can you truly have a top 25 w/out teams playing a minimum of 4 games? It is hard enough then to come up w/ a reliable ranking due to the swath of teams. However, at least you can get a better feel.

I think this could be the year that there's no St. X or Trinity in the state final game. Just a feeling.

IMVHO the only team with a legitimate shot at knocking off either X or T or their way to Bowling Green is Scott County. That said I thought they were very senior heavy last year and one of the reasons they took the loss at T so hard was because they thought that was their best shot for a while to knock one of the big guys off.

In 20n10 USA Today told Dale that they were going to rank Highlands 20th preseason. Their preseason ranking did not come out until after Highlands and T scrimmaged.

Highlands lost by 14 and when the preseason ranking came out Highlands did not get ranked...

That notion that they were going to be ranked was also based on coming off their 2009 USA final ranking of #3

I think this is awesome, I dont care what anyone says...

Again, it puts the Commonwealth on the national stage and Iam not too sure they are not deserving:thumb:

This is why imo, national rankings are a joke. They simply go off of history and name recognition.

At the same time, it is pretty cool just for the sake of it.

Growing up in the 70's I always loved the attention Moeller would get.

Love the Rocks but this #2 ranking is silly. Now, should they run the table, it's not high enough!

I say if Trinity goes undefeated with THIS SCHEDULE , #2 in the nation, no doubt about it.

Congrats to the T program, now go whip those out of state teams !

The table is certainly more even. I would think Scott County, Maybe a Lexington team. The one that you have to really think is a sleeper is McCracken County.

But, I am staying with my original deal. St. X is the team to beat.

Will be interesting to see how the T-Rocks fare before they play St. X. I think that they will be hard to stop offensively, but have to question the youth on the defensive side of the ball and 10 of 11 starters from last year missing.

Not to mention, the 10 of 11 were absolute BEASTS IMO and that will be hard to replace no matter how you re-load

Something tells me you just wanted to remind everyone of the Birds ranking back in 09'

Ok 4 out of the 5 ranked in the "Top 5 of KY" thread have their own national ranking thread now. First it was BG representing and getting on their high horse, then others like this thread followed. Boy, I cannot wait for the season to start so we can start dishing out the crow! Nah, actually I think it's quite comical.

I understand that. I am questioning why they do it that way. Two years ago, I said that no matter what T did, they would not win the USA Today title due to the amount of teams in front of them at the beginning of the year. However, it would set them up to be ranked highly in '12. They started '12 ranked very low, considering the returning talent the year before, but never really dominated like they did in '11 either, so it was irrelevant. This year, they lose one of their, if not their, best group of skill players ever, yet start the season at #2. Makes no sense.
