By the way, I like Christie is some respects. I think we need more republicans like him -- ones that talk a good talk and won't shy away from it. But I lost a lot of respect for him when he took the pork filled Sandy money and blasted republicans who only wanted RELIEF money.

I'm willing to guess that you're absolutely correct.

Personally, I'd love to see Christie run for POTUS. He, as far as I know, is the only Republican being talked about that I would consider. While I don't agree with him on alot of things, I find his positions to be at least reasonable. I have no idea who else, of any party, may be a candidate. But I'd love to watch Christie debate anyone. I love his "way", and would love to see him in that forum.

If Republicans nominate another moderate or liberal like Christie, then I will probably go back on my pledge to never cast another protest vote. I still feel sick about having voted for McCain. The only thing that I like about Christie is that he can speak without a teleprompter and he does not avoid confrontation. But the last thing that the federal government needs is another bully in the bully pulpit.

For the record Clyde if you feel me labeling you as a liberal is an attack I apologize. I just think all debates need proper context. I consider myself in the Libertarian arm of the Republican party which I think a majority of republicans 35 and under reside. Which I think is scary to democrat power structure that the future leadership of GOP is a lot more socially liberal. Which is why the trend of attacking the character of those GOP members has become more of a trend.

As to Gov Christie or Sen Cruz repping the Rs in 2016 IMO only Gov Christie would have a chance to win.

There is nobody in either party eager to debate Ted Cruz one on one, and that includes Chris Christie. It will take some tag team action to knock him out of the running if the decides to throw his hat into the ring. If Ted Cruz wants to be president, then his time will come, whether in 2016 or 2024. Time is on his side. Christie will need to switch parties to have a shot at winning, IMO.

No typo - I picked the dates to emphasize Cruz's youth. If Cruz waits until 2036 to run, he will still be three years younger than Hillary Clinton will be when she runs be in 2016.

Like I said earlier, few Republicans can make a coalition that attracts the conservative and libertarian base.

 

Attacking the libertarians in the GOP as Christie has done will not help the Republican party or Christie's election chances. The Reagan revolution came about because Reagan was able, with the help of the late William F Buckley Jr and his National Review magazine, to bring together a coalition of libertarians, religious conservatives and fiscal conservatives. Paul, who is outspoken about his Christian faith, is one of a few Republicans who could rebuild that coalition.
