A U.S. Senator has not taken the time denying allegations by a far left wing website (and now, by you) that he is a nut, so that proves that the information on said website must be accurate. I am sure that you had heard the name Cruz when he was elected but I am also sure that is about as deep as your knowledge goes. Hopefully, you know a little more about the man after tonight.

If I post an article that is biased feel free to call me out. Just like in the sports forum if I know the author has a bias I try to make that known ala Bill Simmons and Kobe. I think its fair to make it public rather right or left any author and any previous bias they have shown . If an author has a bias sometimes that article can be presented in a manner to get the predetermined results.

Assume what you will but I stay up on politics pretty well as compared to the avg schmo. Nothing you've told me tonight is anything that is new. As a rule I don't think there are many "dumb" people that become attorneys so that would be my first clue that he is intelligent. Heck, as much as congress gets killed, I don't think many of them , even Michelle Bachmann (whacky #1) are dumb. You can't be dumb and make it to the national level.

Many people in this country are concerned about the potential loss of sovereignty of this country to the UN and many people, including me, see our expenditures on the UN as a big waste of money. You may think that mistrust of the U.N. is whacky but I do not. It is a corrupt organization that spends much of its time demonizing the United States and the rest of western civilization and we pay a disproportionate part of the bill to pay for its existence.

 

The fact that you believe that the U.N.'s push for "sustainable development" and U.S. presidents embracing parts of it and incorporating them into U.S. laws does not threaten private property rights is whacky. A voluntary document such as Agenda 21 does not pose the same level of threat to U.S. sovereignty that formal treaties do, but the fact that parts of it are being inserted into bills is a cause for concern.

The fact he believes that is pretty wacky. I don't think he is Looney . I find that comment to be Looney. But I also don't let one comment define the man as Looney. Like Mitch said its obvious prior to this thread you were not terribly familiar with Senator Cruz resume or work on other topics. If you YouTube senate clips from Cspan on Senator Cruz even if you don't agree with him its hard not to walk away impressed from how detailed articulate and well researched he is on a wide range of issue surrounding the Constitution. But you want to pigeon hole him as Looney based on one line in a quote. I would like to hear more detailed response from Senator Cruz and his legal reasoning behind it . Without how he handled other legal topics as a Senator I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. On so many other legal issues brought up in the Senate he has made people from both parties look silly because his understanding of details of constitutional law is in the top 1-2% in either senate or the House.

For those joining late let's summarize the Ted Cruz discussion:

He made what many, including me, think was a crazy/whacky statement.

He is very smart.

My moderate views in the eyes of many make make a raging liberal.

Exactly. Clyde said the link from Think Progress got its information directly from Cruz's website and that Cruz took that info down yet that info is slammed as a liberal website source. Not to mention, Clyde stated that Cruz has never denied making the whacky statement about golf and paved roads.

You are mistaken if you think that there are many dumb attorneys in this country. There are far more bad attorneys practicing law in this country than good ones, IMO. Ted Cruz is among the top lawyers in the nation but I never claimed that Ted Cruz is a genius. However, your fellow liberal, Alan Dershowitz, came very close to making that claim.
